Nah, I have a hard enough time swapping for normal monthlies. I HATE when there's an outcome more rare than the rest because you have to significantly overpay to get it.

I support this idea, but I don't assume we'll all get a rare. I just think that trading for them would be fun, and if you are lucky enough to get one in a litter it would be exciting. A lot of people nowadays log on only for events, and nothing else. The site is pretty dead for the rest of the time. Something like this could bring people to log on more often.

I also support the other idea mentioned on this thread to release URs in the same way that Zebras are released, I think that could also help boost activity on the site.

Exactly. I love litter swapping and trading, and it would make CS more fun when there isn’t an event going on. Of course not everyone is going to get a rare, that’s now how rares work

The thing is though it's not going to be litter swapping for this rare pet. The rest of the pets in its litter will be a lesser rarity so it wouldn't be fair to litter swap for it. It will be regular trades for any few posted to the monthly swap thread and whatever trades being sent will have to compete with demand. What do you think users will expect as payment for their brand new rare outcome very few users have? :c



There was a user that suggested extremely low odds of pulling a UR pet in monthly litters, that's my vote if it were an option. No opportunity for hoarding or the big green greed wave to come rolling when those special pets drop so incredibly small. And yet we'll still have more URs that could possibly go in circulation.

Kinda going off something you said here:

I wonder if CS would ever consider making a rule about hoarding non-store rare+ pets. Because I do see that as contributing to some of the problems with trading. Maybe not hugely, but a bit. Like, no more than 3 or 4 of the same rare+ or something like that (I don’t know what amount would be reasonable). That would help keep things in circulation.

Edit to add: I don’t necessarily have a strong opinion either way about hoarding rares. It annoys me but I understand and respect that players paid for and sought after them. This is just a theoretical thought about something that I wonder about whether or not would change the trading market at all.

Also, this is unrelated to my above thoughts, I see a lot of people talking about not wanting rares because users are going to expect overpay for them. Would that be the case though if getting rares was a regular occurrence? Because my observation so far has been that those harder to achieve outcomes are driven up by demand because they’re unexpected. Litters almost never have above common outcomes when they’re very first released so for there to randomly be one that’s rarer, yeah, I can see people going crazy for that.

However, if users knew that it was typical for some litters to have a rare, I imagine they would start to lose that surprise novelty and would start being treated like regular rares.

I would also hope that if more rares were added that their designs wouldn’t stray too far from the rest of the litter they’re a part of, because those extremely unique outcomes I think also makes the demand for them so high. Thinking of the august pps in this example - I believe demand would have still be very high for it if it turned out to be uncommon, or even lower. The design is so sought after that that too drives up demand for it. I imagine a lot of people would have been trying to create large hoards of it if wasn’t rare.

For those agreeing, how often do you guys actually trade for the high demand rares? Because in my experience almost everyone wants over-pay for a pet that is simply a rare. It makes actual trading a nightmare, and considering the new trade values we’re still trying to recalibrate from that to trade semi-fairly. Even if we didn’t have that ALOT of members don’t know pet values and do not send fair trades again staggering the amount of actual acceptable trades. I don’t want more then what we normally get yearly for this reason. If you aren’t far on your pet wl, I can tell you once you hit a certain point in it that you see few trades. Much fewer that are fair and will actually help you decrease your wl.

Always. I strive for a complete collection, so if I miss a pet, I immediately seek it out. I do overpay some for new rares that everyone is searching for, but I have my limits. For the golden gatcha dog, I traded a 2011 rare. For the 2014 PPS Cocoon, I traded a 2011 rare and 8 C$. For the valentine's lioness I got a fair offer, luckily, and didn't have to overpay at all. For the July Lionness, I traded two 2012 rares back in 2012. There ARE people out there who will trade their pets fairly, or for only a bit of overpay, it just requires some patience.

Also, imo, the problem lies mostly in people who offer stuff like MAs and 08 Rares for new pets. That makes a lot of people expect that much overpay. So I never go that far and simply try to find someone who will accept a more reasonable trade.

Sure it's not MAs and 08 pets but, I see you joined in 2011, so in essence you are trading the oldest pets you adopted for recent rares. What will the newbies trade for these new rare pets? Like I said, I do offer some overpay. I am aware that it is overpay. But I also listed examples where I got fair trades. New players have over a decade of Rares/Very Rares/OMGSRs to get (assuming they're going the completionist route). The rares that are just released will only be easier to get than all of those. AND they'll have a chance to adopt them. Even if it's not an event, they still have just as much of a chance to get the pet as any other player. I don't see this affecting new players in any kind of way tbh.

CS will never arbitrarily outrule a valid, harmless playstyle just because some users have a chip on their shoulder about it; they've explicitly said this in the past.

Regardless, I do not think it'd help to solve much. Past monthly rares have been in high demand due to how much scarcer they appear compared to normal monthlies (when everything is common or uncommon a jump up to genuinely rare feels MASSIVE) which feeds into the crazy demand spike, I don't think hoarding has had much (if any) effect on it.

Agreed. And even if it did — it’s part of the game. No option is ever going to please everyone; but trashing on hoards, especially rare hoards, isn’t going to solve rarities.

I still believe the best outcome for this would be to add the UR pets into the chance pool for monthly adoptions. It allows more chances for people to adopt these pets other than December 18th.

{ my best recent example is the Valentine's lioness. I needed two at the time [one for me, one for someone else] and I just waited it out. I ended up just buying both of them for a good C$ deal after maybe a week. when high demand pets drop I either watch the swap threads [if I have an hour or so to spend on it] looking for a reasonable trade or just straight swap that both of us are happy with, or I wait until the next ooh shiny comes out and get a reasonable trade then. the main issue truly is people have to have these scarcer outcomes right now immediately this second instead of just. waiting for them to be revealed as uncommon etc. and they throw absolutely everything they own at the trade threads to get it. that's where you get outrageous stuff like 08s and MAs for one new simple rare. it actually has gotten a tiny bit better over time with so many of us in discussion threads reminding people that it's not worth so much overpay, but there's just a lot of unwillingness to simply wait it out that contributes here. I don't have that kind of fodder to toss at any pet so I just. don't. usually I can get the pets with a few C$ or a handful of pets from earlier in the year once the hype quiets. it's worked for me-- I have to go back all the way to 2018 for a missing outcome that's not a hoard or UR, and it would be further back but I missed said pet in the archive until recently 😂 ♡

{ as for blaming hoarders, let's just not... we pay just as much as everyone else, often more, for our pets, and I believe there's evidence out there that it has little to no effect on overall rarity. a person with twenty BAs or even a hundred BMDs is not singlehandedly making them OMGSR, and that person likely overpaid for most if not all of those pets. collecting is sort of another version of hoarding, too. don't open the can of worms because it's easiest to blame hoarders, please, we do this every time there's the slightest issue with trading 😭

Ah, but there is a key difference with the pets that will be released in the monthly litters. After the poll closes users will be watching monthly litters like a hawk to see if there is a pet that is harder to find than its littermates. And we all will know it is not uncommon, it is rare, because that is what staff are offering us. A rare pet among its littermates.

As for needing a missing outcome immediately I find the overpay/demand only inflates with time. Best to try and trade for it early, before too many overpay trades are shared and it becomes the standard to beat. For these truly rare pets one would need to wait far more than a week to see the trade economy die down, if it even does.
