i got mercury's personality from his owner:
Mercury is a very simple individual. If he wants something it may as well be his, and once he has hold of it he will never let it go. He is a thief because that's his job. But once in a while he will take something he desires, not because he is being paid to, or ordered too, but because he wants it more. Obviously.

Outside of his job he is actually a nice guy. He is brilliant at putting people at ease and making them feel good. A side issue from years of evading cops and convincing people he is a good guy (even if he knows he isn't).
