What is the advent calendar?
The advent calendar is a special Christmas event on CS where we give you a new present every day of December until Christmas on the 25th. You need to come online to adopt the gift each day. You can usually adopt one or two of each thing.
What is in the presents?
Each day there is a different one, but the giftbox will in most cases pop open as soon as you adopt so you have an idea of what you have got. It may be a new pet, or some new items
Will we get another chance to get gifts we missed?
You must come online each day to adopt the present. If you can't come online, then you can try to trade for what you missed, but we can't give you the gifts just because you are going on holiday or something.
A lot of the gifts will contain pets or items which are only made available for one day. In some cases, there are too many variations for that, so the gift will be offered more than a few times throughout the month.
What time does the gift get released each day?
The gift changes over for everybody at the exact same time, which is at midnight in the timezone GMT+0.

GMT+0 is in the middle. The gift does not get released at MY timezone, so don't ask me what time it is in New Zealand! use the map to work out what time it gets released at your location and work from that. i.e. if you are from New York you are in the timezone GMT-5, so the gift will be released 5 hours before midnight at your location, i.e. at 7pm.
Tips
I highly recommend that you don't go running to the trade board each day to get things you missed, particularly in cases where it is clear there are 6+ variations of pets or items that day.
As I have mentioned, some gifts will be offered more than once throughout the month to ensure you have a fair chance of getting a full set. Trading advent pets/items for other advent pets/items is ok, but trading off your rares to gain a missing advent isn't recommended until the end of the advent calendar. It would be a waste to give away your precious rare pets for something you get for free in a giftbox later in the month.
