I joined when the site was already named Chicken Smoothie, but I remember seeing all the Petz links in the sidebar and completely ignoring them because what on earth are Petz? Some Webkinz thing?

(answer 1: they're about as similar as Chicken Smoothie is similar to Dragon Cave lol i.e. basic, overarching ideas are similar, but they're unrelated and have totally different things!

answer 2: Petz is the root reason that Silent Wolf Kennelz was started :P)

there's just something about that phase that makes you laugh and cry at the same time. It used to be a comfort that most (if not all) people went through this phase, but now it seems like the younger generation is skipping straight to being a full-on teenager. It looks like we're the last generation that had the full-on "tween, xD" phase, which is something I'm strangely slightly proud of LOL

I wonder if tumblr and other slightly-more-mature/have-space-for-lengthy-posts social media is part of the reason for that haha

Social media wasn't a huge thing when I was little, and having internet to begin with was still not super common until after I joined CS, even though I'm in the US; only in the last few years has social media really picked up, to the point where having social media is almost as essential as having internet o___o Might also have to do with smartphone ownership explosion; now many people can be online anywhere instead of most people being only able to get online at home or in the library, which was the case when I was little

(I think I'm one of the last holdouts of our generation lol no social media for me! either it's as bad as the comments on YouTube (Facebook) or it's even worse in terms of vitriol (tumblr) and I really don't think I can handle that, so I'll just have my friends filter all that out

especially because there is more and more of a push to connect people

nope nope nope

Anyone remember the old lineart of the fennec foxes ? I never remember why the changed it :\
Or how they changed the pony lineart? I really miss the old Roadkill pps. Then again I'm not really much of an oldie xD since I came here late 2010
Also anyone remember when you could get Cerberuses at crazy low prices back then? o_o like I remember on multiple occasions just getting a red cerberus for like... 3 rares? I regret not just hoarding a bunch.

The Shima fennec foxes got a lineart change for the same reason as the equimagine horses - there were issues with at least some of the stages' linearts being traced from photographs.
You can find more info about the lineart changes and all related issues on this thread, if you'd like to read up c:

I was a member in 2009 and I lost interest. Then I found it again and forgot that I had an account so I created this one. I took a forced vacation for 2 years, and now I have an account full of 2011-2014 pets, but I have no idea how to trade them down for all the new pets that I need.

I remember when you could get a BA for about what it's worth, with a little overpay, but not mainlists lol.

I found the site in August so I missed the Silent Wolf Kennelz days, but I do remember back when there was still a separate section of the site dedicated to Petz downloads. I remember downloading a rat that I used to breed with dogs to make a dog sized version of it.

I remember when the BA was adoptable. It was a little harder to swap for but obviously nowhere near where it is now, haha. It's so weird seeing all the pets I was around for becoming crazy rare.

I remember when I first joined in october 2008 there were no adoption limits. People literally adopted hundreds of pets a month because there was nothing stopping us. I really liked the pups with the stripes on them so I adopted tons of them- and then I adopted out all of my extras. It kills me looking back on it because I had so many and they were basically worthless to me. Now i dont even have a full collection from that month lmao.
I also remember when the first 2nd gens were ridiculously common because they were left up for a ridiculously long time, to the point that you literally could not give them away. Someone started a 2nd gen rescue that had like 1000 of them. Even after they were taken down they were still everywhere for months after because no matter how many new users adopted the leftovers there were still tons more in their place.
I remember when adoption limits were finally added and we all had to actually swap for our missing outcomes instead of just adopting so many that there wasn't a chance of missing one.

Also, we didn't have a trading system or wishlists for awhile. back in my day, you clicked on the pet you wanted to trade to them, entered the recipient's username into a space, and sent it. you then waited for the other person to send their pet to you.
We also had to make our wishlists by hand. Some artists charged pets to make tiny wishlists with little pixel headshots of the pets you wanted on them. Kids these days have it so easy lmao

I remember the custom made wish lists. And before the Suggestion feature was added to the trading area. If you did NOT want your partner to accept the trade as sent you had to clearly word the trade message that way. And hope they followed through. If not you'd have to contact the mods to get it reversed.

Oh god i forgot about that. That got so ugly, I remember everyone was ready to kill eachother every time that happened. It made the trade rant thread a really entertaining and drama filled place for awhile, I'm so glad they fixed that before it got any worse, haha.

I remember before the list was even a thing. The list makes me crazy I have such a rough time figuring it out and remembering it/
