I joined when the site was already named Chicken Smoothie, but I remember seeing all the Petz links in the sidebar and completely ignoring them because what on earth are Petz? Some Webkinz thing?
(answer 1: they're about as similar as Chicken Smoothie is similar to Dragon Cave lol i.e. basic, overarching ideas are similar, but they're unrelated and have totally different things!
answer 2: Petz is the root reason that Silent Wolf Kennelz was started

AAAAAAH I DIDN'T SEE THAT
IGNORANCE IS BLISS
Against my better judgment, I looked at my oldest posts

there's just something about that phase that makes you laugh and cry at the same time. It used to be a comfort that most (if not all) people went through this phase, but now it seems like the younger generation is skipping straight to being a full-on teenager. It looks like we're the last generation that had the full-on "tween, xD" phase, which is something I'm strangely slightly proud of LOL
I wonder if tumblr and other slightly-more-mature/have-space-for-lengthy-posts social media is part of the reason for that haha
Social media wasn't a huge thing when I was little, and having internet to begin with was still not super common until after I joined CS, even though I'm in the US; only in the last few years has social media really picked up, to the point where having social media is almost as essential as having internet o___o Might also have to do with smartphone ownership explosion; now many people can be online anywhere instead of most people being only able to get online at home or in the library, which was the case when I was little
(I think I'm one of the last holdouts of our generation lol no social media for me! either it's as bad as the comments on YouTube (Facebook) or it's even worse in terms of vitriol (tumblr) and I really don't think I can handle that, so I'll just have my friends filter all that out
especially because there is more and more of a push to connect people
nope nope nope
1) you're not getting my info
2) I DON'T WANT TO SEE EVERYTHING PLEASE GIVE ME A USER-FRIENDLY OPTION TO TURN CRAP OFF)
