If these people can be welcomed in to a system that is easy to understand the number of pets in circulation/up for trade will increase and that benefits everyone. I’m looking for basically a tier list like (these numbers are just an example but they feel pretty good to me):
Legacy OMGSRs/special store pets like skelebun (special values)
High OMGSRs that were always OMGSR or went OMGSR a long time ago (2:1 with standard OMGSRs or standard OMGSR + new OMGSR)
Standard OMGSRs that became OMGSR before this update (2:1 with new OMGSRs or new OMGSR + ER)
New OMGSRs that turned this update (2 or 3:1 with extremely rares)
Extremely Rares (2 or 3:1 with old very rares)
Old* Very Rares (base unit)
Old* Rares (trade 2:1 for very rares)
*my view of old is about 2009-2012/2013
And that tells people how to get between each of these groups without much hassle or math. I don’t remember who said this and I’m on mobile so it’s hard to check, but someone pointed out that we’ve changed three variables in the system (number of rarities, thresholds for each rarity, and active user window) which makes our old data a lot more useless. It’s time to reevaluate and do something new and let the users who have these pets now into the system. Someone else said on the announcement thread that admins likely evaluate the ceiling for how rare they want a pet to possibly get and rerelease accordingly, which I think makes total sense especially if you observe how rerelease litters with OMGSRs seem to have equal or even more of the rarest pets given out. So that’s why I gave old stores their own category because they can’t be controlled in this way.
Just adding to this to say that I would love to be able to trade the high value pets I have, like the UR Aussie I got last December and the new ERs I have, since I think other people would love them more than I do, and there's pets I'd love more too. When I first joined, even, in 2016, I was gifted an '10 (now) VR cat with the express intent of giving me trading fodder for pets I might want (they said they were giving it to me so I could trade it for pets I wanted! It was incredibly nice). I have never traded that cat. But I would really love to, and someone out there would probably like to have it.
So I guess I wanted to say that yeah, there are people out here who have high value pets they could be trading, which would add more pets into circulation, but aren't for various reasons. It was always too confusing for me, especially because I didn't understand how to trade up to high rarity pets in the first place. Once I hit "old rares" I kind of just stop understanding what's happening, and I really only trade for 2014 and newer pets mostly.
(Edit to add in I like the tier list idea... I'd love a way for the value of higher value pets to be more transparent, and the ways to trade between them to be easier to understand. I the system we have now has helped some people do that, and made it more difficult for others).
Edit 2: Is there any reason we can't have both systems (two different ways to explain the same agreed upon values and how to trade between them)? I don't fully understand the one we use now, so I don't know if that's possible.
