Marina and Chase: the twins who were tight
and the new girl who changed everything
Growing up as a twin is kinda like growing up with a normal sibling, the only other argument we get in is about who's older; but for the most part, Chase and I are really close. We're like each other's best friend, always there for the other no matter what. We stick together through everything, even when we get bullies picking on us in school. I love my brother and I know he loves me too.
When we were little, both of us had no friends in school for a long time. We were considered the wierdos, "the double duo funny-looking shrimps" as one kid called us. One day though, that same insult was the start of something that would change my life forever.~~~
"At least we're not a bunch of dumb-looking hydrant-lickers," Chase retorted one day, having had enough of the jeers. Seeing the angered looks on the kids' face, it terrified me for my brother's safety.
"Chase, no-" I said worriedly.
"No Marina, I'm not gonna sit back for a bunch of bullies to stand there and poke fun at us anymore," he growled challengingly at them. The provocation angered them further as they grabbed Chase by the neck.
"You wanna say that again punk?" the smallest one sneered as his buddies held Chase still. He looked my way and smiled mockingly. "It's so cute. The itty bitty damsel, saved by her big brother," he said and brushed at my hair but I quickly swatted at him.
"Don't you touch me you little...little-"
"Toilet licker!" Chase jeered with a laugh. As much as it may have made me smile a little, those guys looked ready to pound him.
"Hey! You leave them alone you nasty ruffians!" a smaller but commanding voice rang out. Both Chase and I turned in surprise to see a little girl staring at the bullies with narrowed eyes, completely unintimidated.
"Or what? Are you gonna tell on me?" the smallest bully laughed and went over towards her. "Good luck pumpkin because that's be a big mistake."
She just sniffed in slight irritation as the bully tried to make her scared. "No, but my big brother Max won't like you being so mean, especially with myself involved," she said smartly.
Whoever this Max was, he must've been scary for the bully paled and stepped away almost submissively. "Max? As in Max Baker?"
"Yes," she snapped, "And he's gonna be really mad if you don't buzz off."
"I'm terribly sorry miss," the bully said as his cronies dropped Chase and walked away from us, "it won't happen again, promise. C'mon guys, I think we're needed," he said and took off before Chase could hurl anymore insults. After they left, the little girl dropped the agressive stance and looked down at her feet, as if she didn't know what else to do.
"That was so awesome! They were totally scared of you!" Chase said touseling and joshing her a little. Seeing her expression grow a little more bewildered at my brother's extroverted invasion of space, I gave him a bit of a reminder shove that not every girl acts like a boy.
"Chase!" I scoffed and took her hand gently to steer her away from him, I'm sorry for my twin brother's craziness. Thanks a lot for helping us today. I'm Marina and this is Chase," I said genuinely happy for her intervention. Seeing her smile a little made me feel like a funny version of happy I didn't understand.
[color=#00BF00]"Thanks, I'm Luna," she said blushing a little, "I just didn't want those barbarians to hurt you two. I guess... I guess I was hoping to find someone who was like me, who needed a friend," she looked up worriedly to me than to Chase, frightened that we'd reject her offer.
"We'd totally be your friend Luna!" Chase burst out happily and hugged her tight. I nodded in agreement but something clutched me inside.
~~~
Ever since then, that feeling's never left. We stayed friends up to today and our senior year of highschool; but that's the problem, we stayed friends. Chase started acting weird a year ago around me and I saw less and less of Luna. I soon found out that they had started dating and were getting pretty serious. That gripping feeling tightened in me as my jealousy over my brother's new squeeze was starting to wear away at my relations to both of them, but I could never say why. I could never say that I had loved Luna from day 1...or could I?
(more?)
Oh yes, I really would like to see more of this
