More and more people are joining and as such more pets are being adopted. As you can see above Geronima she already has 708 commons from a 2012 litter. I have 707 hoard that I've been hoarding for for two years. The amount of people adopting pets has increased so much that the rarity system had to be changed. The amount of Pistachio Pups that have been released are no where near the same amount as any other 2nd gen dog released this year, I can't compete with that on a fair field, there simply aren't enough dogs for me to be able to.
That's life. I'm very proud of some of my very large hoards that I've been working on for years. However, a newer hoard has a great advantage. They can get many pets much much cheaper than I can just by getting them in the current month. I had something like 8 records at one point. Now I have only a few because it's near impossible to find more tan eared wood dogs and skeleton pets.
Personally, I think it's great that everyone has a fair chance at holding a record by having the 'newbie's advantage'

It makes keeping a record much much harder but this has always been true. Nothing has changed in that regard.
If you want a hoard that is easier to keep, try a yearly hoard instead of something so static such as "rarity" which, theoretically changes every month.
The only thing that will change thus far is that the rarities will expand into more categories.
