This isn't a romance story nor is it very happy, just saying before you start reading.
The song is one I've been meaning to write for, for awhile.
You can listen to it here. It is Kill the Lights by The Birthday Massacre

The Beauty xXx The Monster
The Monster xXx The BeautyThis story's missing a wishing well
No mirror to show and tell
No kiss that can break the spell
I'm falling asleepI could hear the heavy bark of a man yelling across the ship at a small group of huddled figures. They were chained to the mast by ropes by one hand each. By the words of the older man, they scurried off to scrubbing the deck once again with fearful looks on their faces. They were slaves, there was no sugar-coating that. They were the survivors of the many raids of our ship.
A gruff voice sounding near me, “Lass, what is arr next move?” I faced a bearded face; the expression on his face was not one of anger. He had a smile on his face as his looked over to my sparkling green eyes.
“Cap’ I believe we should raid the small island town of the isle of teeth. The people are not prepared for attack so they will be easy prey.” My words were even and delivered without emotion. Riches were within reach and once I did away with the old fool they would be mine.
Every prince is a fantasy
The witch is inside of me
Poison will wash away
The memory“Lass, those ar mermaid waters!”
“Then our prey with be even less prepared. Say Cap’ have you ever seen a mermaid?” My tone was cold and slightly scathing. The old fool would believe anything, no one had any evidence that the fish women existed because they were illogical.
“No but they eat everyone who eyes set upon them!” the old man’s eyes were wide and fearful.
“Then you could be the first to tell stories of how you survived the enticing fish women of the sea. You could be marked down as the first, have bards sing about you for your beauty rather than ruthlessness!” At those words, we set sail for Isle of Teeth.

We kill the lights
And put on a show
It's all a lie
But you'd never knowWe were making good time. The winds seemed to be in favor of my goal. I let a smile grace my flawless features. I stood at the front of the ship; I could touch the center piece on the front of the ship. It was of a carving of a beautiful mermaid. A smile graced the carvings face but every time I stared upon the lady my hands would stray to her hands. The left hand held a white object; it was small compared to the mermaid’s size but noticeable due to its colour. It was a skull; to be exact it was the skull of the ship maker. The irony made me laugh every time, that one ship maker put his life into this work. The smile turned temporally twisted as I turn my head toward the other hand.
The other the long slender wooden hands was stained red, a beautiful chrisom painted with the only currency the lady of the sea would accept, blood. It was labeled as good luck to let the mermaid taste blood after every battle; we also painted her fair lips with the dazzling colour. (Even though to get the colour completely right and permanent we had to use a fair amount of ground berries and rose petals) Even with her face smeared with the red, she didn’t look detestable; I would say it quite complimented her beauty.
The smile stretched along my face, beauty was received through detestable means. My grotesque thoughts were interrupted by a lurch. The body seemed to tremble as it knocked me off my feet. I let out a curse as I feel. I was used to being jostled around so was right back on my feet quickly as I heard one of my underlings jump into the water. It was strange, I knew the men weren’t cowards and the ship had been damaged before but I understood when I heard an almost angelic song raise from the water.
The star will shine
And then it will fall
And you will forget it allMany voices were singing but they mixed together in perfect harmony. My men had spell-bound expressions plastered on their faces. I assumed that the song wasn’t working on me due to the face I was female and all of the voices were female also. It could also be that I was smarter than the rest. One face pulled me from my thoughts. It was the old man nearing the ledge of the boat. He was going to jump to his doom but that was something I couldn’t let. I wanted to see his pained face, see the betrayal on his face when I turned on him like a rabid dog. I wanted to finish him when he had such thoughts, I couldn’t let him be stolen by the mermaids.
I pulled with aside with a wretch of my arm, the touch seemed to awake him from his loss of thought. He muttered out words, slowly. He was still in his dream-like state. “I am too old to continue this bloodshed. I wish for the mermaids to take me. I want to join them with the sea mother.” His words lacked their raspy tone. Along with the singing now, screaming rang in their air of the mermaids claiming their victims along with the sound of gnawing. The mermaids were going to bring the ship down as well.
I had nothing more to lose; my crew was too foolish to see past the faces of the mermaids and I no longer had a ship to take for my own, the only thing I had to lose was the satisfaction of robbing him of his peace. I slipped a small blade from my sleeve; it was decorated with a engraving of a mermaid so I was sending him to the mermaids after all.
And after midnight we're all the same
No glass shoe to bring us fame
Nobody to take the blame
We're falling apart With a little too much joy I moved toward him and I held my dagger at his throat. I let the shock of betrayal cross his face before ended him. I left his body on the ship because it was poetic to leave a captain to his ship. I traveled to a small life wooden boat and with a fluent movement; I let it hit the water. The mermaids held next to no interest to me, maybe because they were eating, singing and/or didn’t overly care for the taste of female. I left my ship and my men behind without much of another thought.
---
I finally left the sight of the mermaids and my lost ship. It was a shame but it was necessary, someone needed to escape in order to tell the story. I smiled to myself, I lost everything and was stuck in the middle of the sea but somehow it was entertaining. Creatures in which she didn’t believed in, stole her life without stealing her breath. She gave an overly loud laugh, she didn’t need to play a part. She was going to die when no-one was here to witness it.
“What is so funny?” I was surprised, I heard someone speak. I looked around but I saw no-one. It was just plain sea for miles upon end. I laughed again; I was already losing my hold on sanity. I guess I deserved it though, I was a cutthroat murderer.
“I ask again? What is so funny?” The voice sounded again. I looked around again but this time I met a pair of the most beautiful blue eyes I even seen. They sparkled in the light. My eyes set to examine the whole picture. It was a young man with an absolutely flawless face, nothing marred his pale skin. His hair was odd thought but nether the less, it was very beautiful. It was a bright pink and like nothing I ever seen. I looked at the rest of him; he wore jewelry on both his neck and wrists. They were large chunks of silver, all crafted with mastery. One of his pale hands clasped my small life boat.
We kill the lights and put on a show
It's all a lie
But you'd never know“Um, I just feel like laughing.” I stuttered while I spoke. It was odd to do such a thing, he was the one who manipulated men. My foolish answer caused for the pink haired man to laugh. His laugh was flawless and sound like bells. He was perfection and it scared and enticed me.
“In the middle of the sea isn’t a good place to laugh,” His way of speaking was different but he gave a heart melting smile and my suspicion was gone. I smiled once again, feeling innocent joy rise up in my chest.
The star will shine
And then it will fall
And you will forget it all“Then why do you choose to laugh in the middle of the sea,” I asked without a answer in mid, being around this man made my head spin.
“Because where else is a better place?” He was smiling once again; he put a soft hand to my cheek. The contact made me start thinking rationally again. My thoughts returned to thoughts of being in the middle of the seas rather than in a conversation with an angelic being.
“Who are you?” My voice returned to its usual hard tone rather than the dizzy one from before. The young man seemed to be put off by that for a brief moment. I could be imaging it, but a dark look crossed his face and his finger nails dug into the boat.
“What do you mean? I’m your friend, I’m your ally.” He laughed again; he let a wide beautiful smile coat his face as if his face was saying those same words.
I rephrased my question, putting my words coldly so this man would listen and not put her off with another bell-like laugh or another friendly smile. “Who are you?”
Now you know it's so much better to pretend
There's something waiting for you here
Every letter that you wrote
Has found its way to me my dear
You can make believe that what you say
Is what I want to hearHis pale hand reached out toward me again, he moved too quickly for me to avoid it. One of his perfect pale hands grasped my chin softly. He brought his face to my level and stared into my green eyes. His eyes were mesmerizing; both of them were identical in being as blue as the sea. They even sparkled like when sun hit the water.
“My lady, I am your friend,” His words were angelic and I could feel my head grow cloudy once again. He moved his hand from my cheek and let it settle on my hand. My hand was limp but he lifted from the floor of the boat; grasping it softly.
“Join me my princess. I promise you eternal peace.” The angel smiled at me, I felt as if I was meant to go with him. I felt as if I needed to be with him. I stood up on the small life boat, prepared to seat where he was directing. My mind was horrible foggy, I felt as if something bad was going to happen but I ignored it, I was safe. He was my friend.
I'll keep dancing through this beautiful, delusional careerI hit the water with force and I was robbed of my blind thoughts. I started to panic but a pale man grasped my hand once again. He was in the water but being in the water myself, I could now see what he really was. What I didn’t notice before was a brilliant blue scaled tail instead of human legs. Attached to his sides was a pair of blue fins both matching both his tail and eyes. With barely an effort he turned my face to look at him. He smile but this time it wasn’t beautiful, he smiled wider showing off his many formally hidden sharp pointed teeth. Whatever spell he had on me was broken.
Faking every tear“Get away from me you monster!” I screamed at him, his charm was lost and I struggled in the water trying to get away from his firm grasp on my wrist. Rather than the bell like laugh he gave before this one was gruff. He was laughing at her.
Looking like a compromise suicide
“It’s like looking in a mirror then.” The merman gave another bell like laugh before diving into the water with his pale hand still clasped around my wrist.
Keeping all my dreams alive
