Part One

Later that day, I was in my brand new red and blue polka dot bikini, smiling at myself in the mirror, I pulled my hair into a braid that wrapped around from the back of my head, so that it draped over my shoulder. I fixed my little shell necklace, and grabbed my board. Heading out the door, I took in the smell of the ocean as well as the sight. All of the bigger waves were absolutely perfect for surfing, I smiled to myself as I walked down to the water. I made a slap as my board hit the water, and I started paddling. Soon I was in position, and a perfect wave was on its way in. I paddled hard, and caught it just in time. I stood up and laughed to myself as the loose pieces of hair whipped around my face, I rode the wave the whole way in to the shore. I could see though, that low tide was coming in, so I decided to lay off the surfing for a bit and check out the tide pools. I was out pretty far on the rocks when I heard someone telling me I needed to come in closer. I turned around and saw Ryder smirking at me. I rolled my eyes and walked out a bit farther on the rock, before he lost the smirk and told me I really had to come in or he'd get in trouble. Now it was my turn to smirk, I loved being able to hold the fact that my dad was his boss over his head, but then I saw my dad's beach quad coming towards us, so I lost the smirk and scrambled in as quickly as I could. Ryder started laughing, not realizing that my dad was coming up behind him, then he caught my look and held out his hand to help me in. As my dad reached us I was sucking up to Ryder, and he was saying that it was ok, but not to let him catch me out there again. My dad gave us both a glare, "Find anything out there Charlie?" he asked me, voice suspicious. "I thought I saw a starfish, and didn't realize how far out I was. Ry- This lifeguard had to come over and tell me to come back in," I lied smoothly. My dad gave me a look, and I knew he didn't believe me, "Sure," then turning to Ryder, he added, "Who's watching everybody right now?" his voice sounded like ice. I watched as Ryder flinched almost unnoticeably, before he ran back to his tower. Dad turned back to me, "Get on the quad, were going for dinner," he said brightly. It was obvious to me that he was subtly reminding me that he didn't like me having anything to do with lifeguards.
As we pulled up to Dana's Diner, his phone started buzzing, he answered and looked at me apologetically, "I have to go sweetie. I'll be gone all week. Business calls and there is a camp in San Diego that they need me at. I fly out in three hours," he gave me a look and then drove me home, dropping me off at my bedroom door, and heading in to pack himself. Twenty minutes later, he was in the car headed to the airport, and I was inside making macaroni. When I finished making my dinner, I wandered out onto my front porch overlooking the beach, and watched as the waves crashed onto the sand. I shoveled a heap of my steamy cheese covered noodles into my mouth, and as I began to chew, Ryder came into view. My brain went into panic mode, and I tried to swallow my noodles all at once. Once I had choked the last noodle down, and cleared my face, pretending I hadn't seen him, he saw me and smiled. I gave him a tiny wave, and he waved back. I prayed he wouldn't walk towards me, but I should have known better because the second I did, he started towards me. He sat down next to me, close, but leaving space between us, and I guess my face looked sad, because he asked, "What's wrong?" I grinned stupidly, "Nothing, I just.. Umm, my dad is out of town all week.." I tried to recover, but ended up sounding stupid anyways. He chuckled at me and shifted, ending up a bit closer to me. I bit my bottom lip, sure he hadn't meant to.

Griffin x Rachel

Griffin jammed his surfboard into the soft sand. The Australian summer sun beamed down on his sandy fur as he padded over the sand. He looked out onto the jetty where a girl sat. Rachel, her name was. She had only recently moved into his town and she was in his class at school. She was pretty and she seemed nice enough. Griffin had turned to see her watching him sometimes and she would blush and turn away.
"Hey Griff!" called a voice. Griffin turned to see his younger brother, Taylor run onto the beach after him, wearing his swimming stuff.
"Hey Taylor, 'tsup?" Griffin greeted him. "How was school?"
"What were you looking at?" Taylor asked him, scrambling onto Griffin's back. He scanned the beach and looked at the jetty.
"Ooh, who's that girl, Griff?" Taylor asked teasingly. Griffin looked down, slightly embarrassed. Taylor's eyes widened in realization.
"Griffin has a crush! Griffin has a crush!" sang Taylor, dancing around him. Griffin kicked a spray of sand at him.
"Go swimming," he muttered.
"What's wrong Griff? Embarrassed?" Taylor teased. Grinning, Griffin chased his brother into the sea. Taylor squealed as Griffin tackled him into the water.
"Hey, stop it!" laughed Taylor as he bobbed away with his arm floats. Griffin rolled his eyes and ran back to the shore, stopping to shake his pelt dry. He pulled his surfboard out of the sand and took it back to the water, glancing back at Rachel as he did so. She was watching him again and, once again, looked away when he met her eyes. Griffin sighed, knowing he'd never summon the courage to talk to her, and paddled out into the middle of the water to surf.

Rachel walked home from her new school. She padded down the street and into her beach front house.
"Hey Rach. How was school?" her mum said to her when she walked through the door.
"Yeah, good. I'm gonna go to the beach, okay mum?" she replied. She dumped her schoolbag onto the floor in the kitchen and went off to her room to get changed into her swimming stuff. She grabbed a beachball as well and ran off to the beach. She walked along the beach to her favorite place, the jetty, thinking about her day. There was this boy in her class. He was pretty cute; funny, nice, silly and he lived near her. She smiled at the thought of sitting behind him today.
"Griffin. That was his name," she murmured to herself, reaching the jetty. She walked along to the end, enjoying the soft breeze and smell of sea salt. She sat down on the end, glancing out over the empty beach. Well, almost empty. There was someone coming onto the beach. It was...Griffin? Yes, it was. She watched as he walked to the water. He turned and glanced at her and she shyly looked away.
"Why can't I be like the other girls?" she sighed to herself. "They never have problems talking to guys."
She looked back at Griffin and another figure, probably his brother, as the were playing around in the water.
"Tomorrow," she promised herself. "Tomorrow, I will talk to him."
He looked at her again. Rachel looked down at the beachball, feeling herself blushing. She rolled the beachball back and forth in her paws and watched Griffin surf in the setting sun.
"Tomorrow," she whispered.
