"The" Rares List Guide - Do not ask about new UR's!

I don't think it would really be that confusing, but that's just me. As Kefri mentioned, it could possibly even work as just an extreme gap. In my opinion though, I think it would work best with all gaps. If you're worried about space, you can always ask Tess if you can recreate the thread, and still link to the old one. One page can consist of "The Rares", the next of septembers, etc. It would also be useful to know how MUCH of a "significant gap" is between the Advents, Septembers, and "The Rares". Maybe a more in depth guide for the Advents, since they're increasing in rarity if they're not on the big list yet. Including where store pets are after they leave the store would also be helpful.

I dunno, the more people we can educate and help people understand where pets lie on the rarity scale, the less stupid trades and scams for everyone.

Yeah, I see your point now. I also agree to the advent thing. It's really hard to tell now that they're all turning VR, and the Black advent is shooting through the roof yet the scarf pps and sock dog are just not as much in demand, yet they're "worth more". Hm, maybe someone can make a guide solely for the purpose of determining the values of the advents compared to septembers, that way we wouldn't have to be the blind leading the blind.

Also, the gap between pets may vary a lot, and is not so quantifiable as to assign a certain number of stars.

But the list does undeniably influence trading now, for better or for worse.

I'm going to agree with deja, and I'd like to highlight these two points.

Just to start, the list would get ridiculously long. And in theory, that sounds okay - we can deal with that.
But can we deal with assigning a value to each star? For that, in the end, will become inevitable. Can we handle arguing every star out, adding one here, taking one out there, every time we think a value has changed? And what if a pet needs to be completely moved?
Once value is assigned to the stars, then they will become a bible just like the general list we have now. There is no escaping that. This list was intended as a general reference, and for specifics, one can ask in the numerous question threads. In my opinion, it should stay that way - if we have people trying to interpret things every which way, which already happens so as it is, we will never come to a general consensus.

The current list allows for breathing room. It allows for slight variations in opinion. A list involving stars would not, and I very much doubt we could all agree on one thing. We barely can so as it is, as I said.


Second point in question - making an edit of that magnitude would really screw with known values.


And I will openly admit, it sounds so great! But it simply won't work, and on top of that, how many of us really have our rarities down that well?

How many of us would be the ones on the front line editing that list?

The fact of the matter is, yes its GREAT in theory, but ill advised in practice. All points taken in to consideration I think the thread is fine the way it is. Not all great ideas work so well in reality. Sorry guys.

Sorry, I really just don't have the time or energy to pick up the slack of other threads. This list can't be everything to everyone, it's just not feasible. Adding all that extra information would be a massive undertaking, and would require more information than I think anyone has at this point.

I know I personally refer to this guide frequently when giving advice; stretching the list out with stars or extra posts would interfere with its simplicity and readability, which I am not willing to sacrifice.

The Fair Trades and Pet Worth threads became impossible for me to keep up with around Advent time (literally people posting faster than you could answer). I can't man them anymore, it's just more than I'm realistically capable of. People are always welcome to PM me with advice, I always answer, but that's as much as I can offer in that regard.

The point is that this thread is not that thread, or for any other matter, a similar thread. This thread is to discuss and give a general ladder for the higher rarity pets. It's not this thread's problem if the other thread isn't going well.

No one is saying anyone has to or is required to take care of or fix the other thread or even this thread. They were merely important and valid points to bring up.
