- A girl and her bear~
Whenever your world starts crashing down
- Whenever your world starts crashing down
The girl hugged the bear close to her, the stuffed animal's worn material acting as a shield from the troubles that faced her outside. Away from the yelling of her parents, and the terrors of the world just outside her door.
Here, tucked tightly beneath her covers with her best friend by her side, she was safe.
The bear was worn and tired in appearance, with scraps of fabric to cover up the tears in his hide.
He didn't mind them, so long as his girl was safe. So long as he was by her side, taking care of her, he'd do anything to stay with her. Anything to keep her happy. He loved her more than anything else in the world, as did she.
The girl told him everything, all of her secrets. Tales of cookies stolen from the cookie jar or the latest news from her friends. When there was no one else she could tell, no one else to give her comfort, her teddy was always there.
But then, she left.
He only heard the echo of her father's voice, calling her to soccer practice, tearing the bear away from his precious little girl.
She dropped him on the bed, hurrying off to her latest adventure.
It was the last time she'd ever hug him.
~~~
It was the dark eyes of her father that he saw next, the warm tears rolling off of his bloodied face.
"She's gone." He heard the man whisper, his grasp growing together around the tiny bear. He thought he heard him cry, "You were her favorite," but it was impossible to tell. The man was once again buried in the embrace of the girl's mother.
That night he sat and waited, waited for his little girl to return.
But she was gone. Never to be found.
Never to be comforted, never to be hugged again. Lost.
But once again he felt the warm hands of her father, placing him gently into a box. Amid solemn goodbyes and soft prayers the bear sat, clutched gently in her tiny, lifeless arms.
And there they lay, never again to be torn apart.
That's where you'll find me.
