how are some people adopting full grown pets with rarities already? Mine are all newborns

Why are the newbies the ones with all the URs? xD It's like the newbies get all the rares, and most of the older members didn't? At least by what I've seen.

Some pets are adopted as adults, due to being special event pets such as Advent/Christmas Pets, Beach/Slumber Party/Medieval Event pets, Easter Pets or Unreleased pets etc.
