Shintaro [m]..........Rin [f]
"Kanjou kakashi tsudzuketeta
kokoro no to mina sabi tsuite kamau
kamen ga jama shite shinjitsu namigeki
utsumuki waruita furi kaeshi na hibi ni."
Rin stumbled through the darkness, feeling the cold winds whipping her fur and the rain trickling onto her skin. The trees swayed and twisted in the storm and the leaves that spiraled wildly from above barely brushed the she-wolf's fur as she burst through the soggy brush. A feeling of eyes dug into her pelt but she dared not look back. Not because of fear, it was something else, something else entirely that Rin could not explain.
The raging winds ripped branches over the path, and the ground was swelling with muddy puddles and slippery stones. The blinding rain did nothing but screw up Rin's sight. Every few sceonds, though she tried desperately to hide her face from the sharp drops of rain. They were freezing, and as she rain, it was though tiny knives were cutting her face. Suddenly, after running almost three miles, a twisted root, hard and icy, caught her leg, and she fell into a huge muddy gully.
"Damn it..." Rin hissed, getting to her paws and trudging towards anything that could provide shelter. A cave loomed as if an angel had come down from heaven. Dragging her sodden body from the murky water, Rin slipped into the cave and curled up, hoping to warm herself up. As soon as she'd settled down, thoughts raged in her mind like a crashing wave. The home she'd run from, the love she'd lost.
Two eyes blinked in the darkness, their blue depths endless. Rin didn't hear or see a thing, her mind swamped with regrets. The body emerged in the darkness, blending into the shadows perfectly. "Hey..." The voice of the dog could barely be heard, but Rin's head snapped up and she gazed with a mixture of fright and anger. "Who are you? And what do you want?"
"You are the one who ran?" He asked, not sharing anything more. Rin's teeth clenched. "You're another one of them, aren't you? Trying to get me to go back? I'm a witch. I'll be killed. After what I did, I probably deserve it..." The dog shook his head. "My name is Shintaro, and I am a not from your home. I am a spirit, sent here for you." So it kind of was an angel. Sent to help.
"You are not a spirit," Rin smiled evily. "Do you think I'm an idiot?" Shintaro smirked and let a gentle ripple flow through his body. The dog's body quickly changed into a transparent figure. "Who am I now?" He laughed and walked closer. Rin laughed, too, wiping away her tears. The days after this were quite a blur. Yet a strong bond slowly formed between them.
Rin came to live in a small cave beside the home of Shintaro. They became best friends. Her eyes never left Sintaro's ghostly side. But one day, the peace of the two were shattered. Witches were hated in Rin's former home. And finally, after three months, they had found her. 36 angry wolves crowded around her cave, fire-lit sticks held tightly in their jaws. Their howls of disgust could be heard for miles. Rin's blood froze. Shintaro perked his transparent ears from the cave nearby. "Rin?"
Rin fought without stopping, kicking and barking and snarling. She would not let them take her away from Shintaro. Her best friend. The feeling she'd always wanted. The feeling that someone wanted her to be alive, that someone cared about her and what happened to her. The pain wasn't from the fire or the sharp stones. It was from her heart. The thought of leaving this world had felt so good, like her best option a few months ago. But now...
A sharp sting cut into Rin's side. She yelped. The gaping mountain crack gazed up, it's dark depths appearing endless. Rin felt her body shake as they heaved her over the edge. Tears stung her eyes and she cried out in fright. "Shintaro! Shintaro!" He hadn't appeared yet. The air rushed past her like a blur as she waited with baited breath for the impact. "Shintaro!" Soon she felt even to weak to speak, the darkness surrounding her and swallowing her like a giant shadow monster. Tears flowed down her cheeks. It felt close now. "I-I-I love you..." Her body struck the ground. It was over. She was dead.
There was a glow. A faint silver-blue light from the darkness. The shadows merged. There was pain somewhere, but it was faint. She could feel it not physically, but as a memory. Nothing was straight except that fuzzy orb in the distance. It seemed to get closer, but she couldn't tell. Standing up, Rin walked forward. It was like walking on a flat surface, but something was different. There were shapes all around her, yet she touched nothing; it all mixed into one other world. The light became cleared. Rin's breath caught in her throat and she gasped. A familiar face looked at her front the darkness of the mountain side.
"S-Shintaro..." Rin studdered, regaining her voice. He smirked, his eyes playful. "But...no. I-I'm dead." Rin shook her head. Shintaro smiled wider. "I know you're dead, Rin. Remember? I'm dead too." Then it all hit her with such force that she stumbled. She was dead, yes. They had killed her because she was a witch. She'd died because of the impact. But now, she wasn't in heaven. Or hell. She was a ghost. Tears stung Rin's eyes again. Happy tears. She ran forward and breathed in the sweet scent of Shintaro's pelt. For the first time ever, she could touch him. Him and nothing else. But that was fine. It was the first time Rin had felt a feeling of joy. Of excitment. It was the first time in her life that Rin had ever felt true love. ♥
