Shawn (M) and Sara (F)

The Lion and the Tiger.... fell in love at the zoo.... with cages right next to each others..... it was kinda hard not to....
But alas..... they were kept apart by those unforgiving, cold steel bars.... and could only express their love by their roars.

He glanced mournfully at me as the humans poked fun at us. I looked at him with what I was sure a equally sad expression on my face. The only time we could really talk and snuggle the best we could through the bars was at night. Where the gamekeepers wouldn't poke us apart with pointy sticks, and cause a commotion. Or even worse, move our cages away from each other. I sighed and turned away from him, and looked at my Ma. She grimced and shrugged. She didn't know what to do. Then I heard the word love and my ears perked up. I peered at the young lady who was leaning against the bars curiously. She was mumbling about loving someone who she could never marry.

You have no idea sister. I thought tiredly. Walking over to Pa, who just grunted at me angrily(He was mad that I loved a lion) I laid down in the middle of the cage and waited for night to come.

Five hours later

I woke up. I hadn't known that I fell asleep. Streching and yawning, I looked around for humans. None, except for the ones who cleaned up the zoo afterwards. But I didn't mind them. I bounded over to the side of the cage and waited for Shawn. I didn't have to wait long.

" Sara! " Shawn exclaimed, rubbing against the bars. I rubbed my head against the bars too, and was able to touch him.

" What did you do today? " He asked.

I sighed. " Nothing! Always nothing! I am sick and tired of this! I just want to love you ithout any bounderies! Without worrying that the humans will tear us apart! I can't take it anymore Shawn! I just can't! " I cried, feeling tears stream down my furry cheeks.

" Shhh. " Shawn whispered, nuzzling my cheek the best he could. " We'll escape one day, you'll see. "

But we didn't. Year after year it was always the same. Soon we were old, so old, that the zoo didn't want us anymore. So they relesed us back into the wild, for the last bit of our lives.

As we stood there, and stared at the rising sun in the nearest jungle, Shawn turned and looked at me.

" See Sara? I told you that we would escape one day. " He croaked.

I smiled the best I could. " Yep Shawn, you sure did. "

And the we laid down next to each other, to die together, like we wanted to do all our lives.

The End.

Liilakko xxxx Silver

Tears fell unforgivingly from her pale face, her small, delicate hands clutching her head in distress.

"Please, don't! I just-" Her voice was cut off by another, stronger voice. His bright green eyes looked unto the dark corridor, and settled on the maiden.

"Liilakko, you are my only love. I know that you would never hurt my family, but their is too much bad blood between our bloodlines. I could never harm you in any way, and I could never forgive myself if even a scratch is left untreated. But, think about it. Even if you weren't differ-" This time the male was cut off by the maiden's voice.

"So now I'm the problem? I can't change anything about myself, but, no, you can just snap your fingers and you could become a commoner. Look, I know who I am, and I will never change that, got that? Your family won't allow me, if they know who I was, even in your kingdom. So what do we do about it?" Her voice was stern, demanding, and harsh. Despite her confidence, the maiden's looks defied her attitude. Sweat was covering her forehead, almost touching her jet black bangs. Sharp, shark-like, canine teeth curved over her lip, but she would hide them when necessary. She wore her dark violet Lolita styled dress, along with her red ruby triangle gem, attached to a small circlet, covered her forehead. Deep purple eyes were directed pointed, like missiles about to fire, at the boy's vivid green pupils.

"One word; Deception. We simply don't tell them you're different." The boy answered, tucking a golden blonde lock from his face. He wore a regal, king's robe, royal blue with dazzling gold, and his fair skin some how glowed in the faint candlelight of the corridor. He was Prince Silver of the Greater Highlands, and a scholar, more than a ruler, at heart. The maiden was his beloved Liilakko Akuma, or her family name, Raptress. It was a long story for the girl to tell, so she chose her shorter name, instead of telling the story of her family name. The two had met rather by accident, when Silver had been at a royal tournament, and Liilakko was replacing the the jouster's javelins with "homemade" stone copies. The guards had found her, and wanted to exile her for a crime, but the prince insisted in keeping her in the kingdom.

"Good old fashioned deception? Princey boy, you're starting to learn from me. This should be easy as replacing those cannonballs with stinks bombs." Liilakko said smirking, happy to glad humor to their visit. That was not an easy task at all. A serious event would happen in just two days, and, although Silver would not admit it, he felt as if his love would finally fail on him. What Liilakko knew was that Silver and herself were to be attending a meeting for the higher classes, and each member was allowed to bring one guest. Silver had brought her, and they'd be discussing some new war decree or something, but she had forgotten. Silver left one thing out though; The war they would be discussing, involved Liilakko's family, and, if even one false statement from one of the members, Liilakko would bolt right up to them and quickly state the truth. But, this would not have been a problem if Silver had listened to his mother's words,"Silver, never talk to the boys or girls with the purple eyes." Mother had been dead right about that. Liilakko's striking purple eyes caught the eyes of a jeweler's once, and he'd asked if she'd sell them to her. After that, there seemed a disappearance if jewelers in the kingdom.

But, now, as the candlelight was starting to fade in the corridor, the two rushed out of the hallway, running towards the main doors of the castle. "Love, please do not take anything from the castle. Understood?" Silver said looking straightly into Liilakko's eyes, putting emphasis on 'not.' She faintly nodded, but to be fair, she was staring at the castle's garden as the prince spoke. Silver groaned a lightly, but led her into the castle. She had to be fitted for a dress, and he'd have to do something to modify the color of her eyes slightly. Something more regal, such as royal or sea blue. Silver smiled as he led Liilakko straight into a strange, stone room, full of different colored containers. The maiden was speaking, but Silver ignored her words,"Is this your lab, or the dungeon? Cause if it's the dungeon, whatever I did I to get in here, I didn't do it. Am I making sense?" Silver smiled at her, as he foucsed in her eyes. Perhaps light green would work. Two days to make the love of your life someone your parents would actually want you to marry. The prince thought as he arranged colors in line for testing on Liilakko. I have a lot of work to do. He thought as two days's worth of work began to start.

@Pudding: Thank you, I am delighted that you liked it! But what you'll soon learn about my writing is that I like to leave little cliff hangers at the end. ;3

ImageImageImage
King Midas /* Marigold /* Dionysus

Sitting in his parlor, the king poured himself a cup of wine that the servant had just brought, and stared out the window thoughtfully. It was Marigold's garden that was seen out the window. And would you have it, just as he was thinking of what a beautiful garden it was, the princess herself ran in the room. Her blonde curls were a mess, curling this way and that, her dress with just a smear of dirt on the hem, and Marigold breathless.

"Papi! Papi!" The young child cried. "There's a stranger in my garden! I wouldn't mind normally, but the worst part is that he's snoring!" She continued with a slightly wrinkled nose, which looked out of place on her angelic face.

Midas jumped up. "An intruder?" He frowned. collecting his robes, the king said, "Marigold, stay here - we don't know how dangerous this man is." She was about to protest but he silenced her with his stern glance. She sighed fitfully, and slumped down into the soft cushions of the lounging chair.

/*\

"Tele, won't you look out the window and see what the man looks like?" Midas asked the servant he had called from his quarters. The servant, not used to talking to the king, was very nervous and a bit starstruck. "Of course sire. I'll be right back, sire. Thank you, sire." He said, bowing much to low. she spun and quickly was out of the room, going to the window with the best view of the man. He nearly laughed. It was just another bum that climbed the high wall and fell asleep on a bench.

The servant came back and reported what he saw. "It is a peasant, sire. He is sleeping on a bench, your Highness." Midas raised his eyebrows. "I suppose he means no harm." He sighed. "Let him stay for awhile longer, and when he wakes up, have him be served breakfast."

Above, Dionysus smiled. It was nice to see a good king. After everyone left, and Midas was left alone, Dionysus appeared to him. The king paled, but quickly recovered. "My lord!" He cried, throwing himself down at his feet. "Oh, enough with that, get up." Dionysus said, and King Midas scrambled to his feet without much grace. "I saw the kindness you expressed toward the homeless peasant outside, and am here to grant you one wish." Suddenly King Midas was filled with greed, and so he replied, "I wish that everything I touch turns into gold." Dionysus was very disappointed now, and he shook his godly head. "Very well, your wish has been granted." he sighed. Perhaps I overestimated his wisdom. Dionysus thought to himself. "Farewell." And before Midas could even bat an eye, the god of wine was gone.

/*\

Midas sighed. Did that really just happen? Dizzy, Midas fell back in the chair behind him, but felt it go rigid beneath his bottom. His eyes widened, and he jumped back up. It did! He opened his mouth and let out a joyful cry. Midas though, "Oh, I have to show them!" He put his hand on the doorknob and turned, but it had turned to gold, and refused to budge. With much effort, he twisted the heavy doorknob with some difficulty, and the door swung open. His shoulders sagged in relief, and he continued on into the hallway.

He walked past, onto the long, winding steps of the back porch, and looked at the large rose bush at his right. "Oh, how beautiful!" He exclaimed, and picked one. It turned into gold instantly, each and every delicate petal. He crowed with delight, a twinkle in his eye.

"Hmm hu hmm hmm hmmm... there once was a tailor, with lots and lots of clothes..." Marigold sang to herself as she crouched to the ground, tending to the daisies. She stopped when she heard her fathers cry, and pricked her ears.

Standing up, she ran to her father and said, "Whats wrong?" Midas looked at her and said, "Nothing my deareast, nothing at all! We may be rich now, but now we will be even richer!" Overcome by excitement, he picked up his dear daughter and twirled her. But her rosy cheeks were no longer pink, her curly hair no longer bounced, her delightful squeal was no longer to be heard.

Image

"What have I done?!" He yelled, tears streaming from his eyes. He fell to his knees, and cried, "O, Dionysus, hear my cries! God of wine, take back this curse which I have brought upon myself!"
Dionysus heard him, and appeared once more. Taking pity on him, he said, "Go to the Pactolus river, and bathe yourself. Then the wish you had asked for will be taken away from you." Midas bowed again and again, the crown slipping off his head. He reached down and picked it up. Because it was already gold, nothing happened. He nestled it back onto his head, and when he looked up, the god was already gone. Midas ran as fast as he could to the river, and plunged straight into it. The sand suddenly had lots of golden flakes in it, for the water of the river had taken the power of gold from him.

Sopping wet, Midas went back to his palace, and found his daughter picking up the rose that he had plucked, now a ruby red once more. "Now what was that all about?" She asked innocently. And with a smile on his face, Midas reached for her hand and began to climb the stairs. "Let me tell you a story, my dear princess. There once a king who loved gold..."

"What do you make of him Decleria?" There was a faint rustle of wings in the darkness of the alleyway, and the narrowed eyes of the creature searched the darkness for the source of the voices. A quiet sound, clear as a bell rang out like the twinkling of chimes in response to the voice. "I question his intelligence. I don't believe that he sees you yet mistress." A laugh rang out, as the young girl responded, and the creature seemed to question who they were, though he said nothing as he stood awaiting the response from the two once more.
"Do you think that I should set the lantern?"
There was a faint rustling once more, though for a moment there seemed to be a flicker of light within the alley though the creature found it to be a mere trick of his eyes. They had adjusted to the dark, years before, though he couldn't understand why as his eyes were so narrowed that he could hardly see in the daylight as well.
"Do you trust him mistress?" There was a faint rustle of cloth as the girl seemed to shrug, and there was an explosive striking of a match, and for a moment the creature could see the two in the alley, though it faded as she set it to the lantern. Holding it in her mouth for a moment as she dropped the match, crushing it against the ground. Taking the lantern to her paw, her face was finally illuminated although all but her eyes and mouth was hidden by a mask that she wore.
Her smirk melted into a sweet smile, and another fluttering of wings revealed a faerie like creature that set itself upon her shoulder, a curious expression upon its unique face.
"And, what might your name be?"

Epos [♂] & Ndarre [♀]

Once upon a time...there's always a once upon a time at the beginning of these things, right?

The girl hummed to herself as she shifted through the books on the shelf, aimlessly searching as she waited for one to catch her eye. Caressing the pages with the gentle touch of the true reader, she flipped through book after book, pausing at random to read a snippet here, a section there.
Finally she made a decision, albeit a little disappointed none of the books had jumped out at her with the sure fire call of interest. Shuffling the five books around as she made her way to the check out, she failed to notice the small leather bound book that was stuck in one of them.

At home the girl dumped the books gently onto the center of her bed, again failing to notice the small leather book as it flopped onto her blanket. Turning, she walked back down the stairs towards the kitchen and a very late lunch. A breeze blew in through her window, lifting the little book's cover like a gentle hand. Softly, the pages began to turn, as if an old friend was reading.
A gentle haze gathered around the book, before drifting out with the nighttime wind. As the haze drifted through the window, it pulled with it the secrets the little book had long since hidden, leaving only blank pages behind.

Once upon a time there was a princess. No prince though. I'm not a prince by a long shot.

The morning was early it seemed, though perhaps if she had not stayed up so late reading.
With a little sigh she slid out from under her warm covers, stretching as she enjoyed the cool breeze.
A small thunk echoed through the room and she turned, puzzled, to look behind her. There on the floor lay a small leather bound book, not much larger than her hand.
'Now what on earth..?'
She flipped through it but, finding it blank, she shrugged, shoving it into her jacket.

The park was quiet as usual. Few people came here, making it her favorite place to read.
The crisp autumn wind tugged at her jacket, like mischievous fingers prying at her pocket. With a snap the button broke, tossing out to the wind assorted odds and ends...and one leather bound volume.
With a cry she launched herself forward, fingers scrabbling after the small book held so alluringly by the wind.
Fingers, albeit not her own, snatched the book from the trickster wind.
'Rather windy out isn't it?'
The girl looked up, meeting the eyes of a boy not much older than herself. He smiled, holding out the little book she had so desperately been reaching for.
'Thank you.'

I'm not a knight in shining armor, either. More like grimy, dulled down, rusting armor.

The boy's eyes followed the girl as she wandered back out of the park, small book clutched tight in her hand.
Shaking his head, he began to chuckle, eyes crinkling at the corners as he wandered in the opposite direction.
The girl had no idea what that book meant, where it had come from.
Glancing up at the sky, he thanked whatever fortunes had allowed it to reach someone literate this time around. The past few times...well, better not to dwell on them.

The wind picked up again, swirling around him as it tugged on his clothes, as if asking him to join in it's games. With a heavy sigh he stopped at the gate to the park, eyes full of disappointment.
'Not now, old friend. Soon, if we're lucky.'
The wind died down, slinking along the ground like a disgruntled child as it retreated once more to the park. Before long, however, it had picked back up again, racing through the trees.
A soft haze played around the young man as he stood there, following the movement of the wind through the trees.
His lips moved, leaving a silent promise in the air as he turned, thoughts drifting back to the girl who could at last be his salvation.
Soon.

But maybe this will be it. There has to be one princess who can break this spell.
.
.

And the walls kept tumbling down
In the city that we love
Great clouds roll over the hills
Bringing darkness from above

Oh where do we begin?
The rubble or our sins?

How am I gonna be an optimist about this?

She was hunched on the cold steps, her bright red pixie hair falling into her dark eyes as she huddled into the blue bandana around her neck. She clutched a lit cigarette in her quivering hands and took an occasional pull on it, the smoke curling around her face.

He was leaning against the dirty brick wall, hat pulled low over his ears. He was watching the girl on the steps, his large, sky blue eyes fixed upon the flickering orange glow of her cigarette. When he pushed himself away from the wall, the bangles around his wrist clanked against each other with a bell-like ring that drew the girl's head up. She stared at him as he crossed the street at a leisurely pace, a small black cat trotting after him.

Her voice was harsh with smoke and disuse when she spoke, eyes suspicious. "Who are you?"

"I am no one, and I am everyone."

He gave her an enigmatic smile, tilting his head so his black hair fell out of his eyes. She scoffed, knocking the ash off her cigarette as she tapped it against her black combat boots.

"Oh really?"

He didn't answer; he just leaned in and picked up a lock of her hair, twisting it around his finger before letting it fall back to rest against her face. She didn't protest, leaning into his hand like a cat. Her dark eyes followed his hand as it dropped to her neck, long fingers deftly undoing the knot of her bandana. He gently tugged it off to reveal the silver locket underneath.

"Hello, Leopardess."

She inclined her head. "Grimalkin."

He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small scroll of paper covered in dark, spidery writing. She streched up and took it out of his hand, her fingers lingering over his (a second too long) before she tucked it into the inner pocket of her jacket.

He gave her a slow, sad smile. "You know we can't."

She stood up abruptly, narrowly avoiding stepping on the cat weaving between her legs. She tossed her hair from her face and gave him an icy smile. "Believe me, I know." As she strode roughly past him, she kept her face rigidly blank.

He watched her go, his eyes filled with a deep longing. He raised the bandana still held loosely in his hand to his face. He inhaled deeply, feeling her lingering warmth and filling his nostrils with the scent of her- cigarette smoke and something sweeter.

It was only when she crossed the darkening street did she feel a single tear slip past her control and slide down her face.
