It doesn't appear to have a common name, actually. Seems like it's just called a dasymutilla for short.
I don't believe it does. I couldn't find anything about a common name. It's definitely this species of velvet ant though.

I googled it and it's a Mutillidae aka Velvet ants
Yes, it is a velvet ant. This particular species does not have a common name like the others. Panda Velvet Ant for example. This one doesn't have a name like that. It's a velvet ant, but several wasps are called velvet ants. So, we just refer t it by the scientific name for now.
