So is this pet going to be very rare when its rarity is assigned?

seriously doubt it, more event pet hype it seems.

One or two people saying "i don't see it as much as the others, it must be going to turn rare" and then bam, that kind of crazy demand starts up only to inevitably end up with just a common / uncommon rarity.

If you look at last year's Valentines Day outcomes they all either OMG so common or very common. I saw someone offering a huge overpay in C$ and traded mine in a heartbeat! My personal opinion is that there are very few cases where you should overpay for a newly released pet; If you're patient and just wait a month or two you could probably even find one in the free adoption forums.
