I'm partial to either keeping it along a line of what lines were released first in a chronological order (basically a history of lines in years) or going with lions or dragons XD

I feel like since we’ve had dogs, cats are a good next thing to go to. Because I feel like those are the most similar x3

I personally think cats would be the best choice to follow-up with the dog lines. The sitting Tess cat line art would be fantastic, but the good ol' current cat lineart would be awesome as well.

I love silly fun traditions but I also love welcoming the new, so I'm going with switching to a new animal!

As for the species, there's a few I would certainly love to see:

Dragons (Nothin' says celebration like a big honkin' derg)
Rats
Snakes (they're new and shiny, I like 'em)
Cats
Horses
Chickens (imagine a little chick for the new year, and the grown up can be the chicken)

But really, I can't say I'm set on any specific species! I just like new things. Hehe.

I think foxes would be really cute, but I also think Butterfly Wolves would be cool!
