I do agree with what is said in this original post, but I don't think there is much we can do about it. The tribals are my favorite of the VRs I'd hoard them if I could lol. But it's definitely frustrating for me when I trade with equal value and it gets canceled because of demand and sometimes reminds me why I left.

Have you ever thought of why pets like the Zebras, Veggies or Fruits, Tribals, etc. are extremely hard to trade-off? Because very rarely people want those regardless of the tag or rarity they have and regardless of how many there exist.

You have a OMGSR Rat, you offer it to someone, they:
a) Already have one and may not want another
b) Not like the design/species and not want it
c) Know they don't trade well and won't be able to get rid of easily, won't want it

I get how demand can kind of factor in, but I don't understand what has been said about 'everyone having an OMGSR and not wanting to trade for it'? Unless I read that wrong. If it's OMGSR it means a lot of people don't have it? Like, that's what rarities mean, right?

I don't get how the actual rarity can fall so hard when rarity means how many users have it?

My guess/interpretation of this is that because everyone wants to trade off their rats, not many people are hoarding them combined with the fact that they have low prices means that anyone who can afford an omgsr rat and wants one already has one? Causing a self sustaining cycle of ‘it’s not in demand so everyone has one’, and ‘everyone has one so it’s not in demand’

I know that demand in of itself is a good thing (that’s how the world works; the more people want something in comparison to how many of that thing are out there, the more valuable it becomes) but how it is affecting this site in particular is really killing my enjoyment of the site. It makes it feel as if any goals that I have are completely unattainable even if I have pets of high value. There’s only one pet I’m seeking actively (the Zonkey), and despite having pets surpassing it in rarity it still feels like an impossibility that I’ll ever get one. It sort of stings, and almost makes me want to drop the site altogether.

I think it has to do with this bit from "How much C$ is my pet worth?"

Why don't C$ values add up like pets?

Many people ask, "a mid advent is worth 7 09 rares, and an 09 rare is anywhere from 30-45C$. But the mid advent is only listed at 85C$! Shouldn't it be 210-315C$?"
There is a reason why we don't do this.
19C$ = $1 US Dollar
An 09 rare is roughly 30C$. (Just using this as a middle ground, they can be more or less.)
A mid advent is 7 09 rares, so 210C$. ($11 USD - that's already a lot.)
A blue rose dog is worth 7 mid advents, so that would be 1,470C$, or $77 USD. That's a lot of money.
And to take a big jump, a nondog is worth 36 blue roses. That would be 52,920C$, or $2,785 USD.
And finally, a sunjewel is worth 5 nondogs. 264,600C$ or $13,926 USD.
This is why we simply cannot use rarity math like this. A sunjewel right now, at 1840C$, is worth $105 USD which is still a lot of money, but clearly a lot more doable than nearly 14k.

If you were to sell your Sunjewel for C$ you wouldn't be able to buy it's 09' worth back with the C$ you got. So I see why people don't want to sell their high value pets but would rather trade them instead.

As someone whos been playing on n off for over 6 years, I have to agree that the demand for certain pets have totally made the trading system (quite) a bit broken. The majority of my high demand pets were obtained years ago, its way harder now that everyone's only looking for an overpay. My ultimate dreamie is the joker dog and I just overpaid by a LOT for it cause i finally found someone whos selling one, really cant imagine how hard new players must have it.

Don't get me wrong, I still love CS very much for its creativity and all the amazing artists but it's getting harder and harder to enjoy the trading aspect of it, especially when this is such a big part of the cite. I really hope the mods can do something about this but I can imagine it'll be really hard even with the yearly december 18th release since they can't have much control over the actual demands of the pets.

edit: here a trade I did years ago for a 2012 store pet, really shows how much the value of C$ has decreased over the years and how demand really changes things wow

This is what really gets me - broadly speaking no one wants C$, yet everyone wants the Store Pets!

In my opinion it sort of invalidates the argument for not rereleasing Store Pets. How can you say that you don't want them rereleased because they were paid for with real money, when paying real money doesn't actually get you anywhere anymore??!

I don't feel much incentive to obtain more than one set of Store Pets each release anymore because even though I've just spent real money on them, it feels because I have such a small wishlist I'll need to wait years before their rarity goes up enough naturally that I'd be able to actually use them to tackle my wishlist.

And the overvaluing of the oldest pets is just the nail in the coffin. It's not just that pet C$ prices don't add up. If you go off of the old list it works out as nearly 9,000 '09 rares for a Sunjewel. Aka. 9,000 pets from one year for 1 from the year before. Even going off the new list that goes purely off rarity changes it's still 350 '09 rares for a Sunjewel.

I don't get how everyone is so happy to use the rarity/date/species rules and 3 month rule for everything except 2008 pets. There's 12 years worth of pets that everyone is happy to swap based on their rarity and date, but as soon as you get to those 6 months, suddenly it all goes out of the window. Yes there's the argument that there were waaayyyy less people on the site then and therefore less pets adopted - but we've had Dec 18th every year, and the past few years we've even had a box that guarantees at least a VR - my wishlist is 64 VR and OMGSR pets from '08, '09 and UR's, and yet when events are going on I usually find it harder to locate someone who has rarer event outcomes I'm missing than someone who has any of those pets. It makes no sense.

And it's just annoying because I think there's just a lot of deep rooted issues that don't have a quick fix. There's possibly a lot of small changes together that could make things better, but it just seems to take so long for anything to happen that I don't think there's any small fix that will make any real impact any more. I feel like we're at the point where even if these was a big user movement, it might not be enough to make much of an impact :( Which is a real shame because it's such a great site, just getting ruined by demand.

i feel like demand would be respected more if cs pets have more to offer than rarity + looks, like if we had some sort of battle system or more actual 'games' where the pet you have has some additional use(probably impossible but i can dream lol)

I wish there was more to CS than JUST collection -- offsite trading can make literally anything possible, even if it takes patience. :x
