The angel fell from a star, and in love with a beast.

"Darling, however do you manage to make such an utter mess of yourself?"
Kota grasped his snow-white paws in her own cream ones, and licked the deep gash carefully. The blood ran, thick and warm, staining the pale underside of his front legs. Cobalt winced beneath her touch and tried to pull his paws from her.
"Oh no, you are to stay and let me dress your leg!"
She sounded rather like she was a mother scolding a small child, but the tone did not hide the concern that edged her words.
"I am alright. It is more important to make this place safe for you and our unborn pup! Why you wanted to move us here..." he muttered, shutting his eyes in pain.
"Only unsafe for yourself! You had better not make enemies for us before our pup is even born." she glanced briefly down at her swollen belly. The puppy would come any day now.
She finished wrapping the cloth around her mate's leg.
"This stick, it itches."
He nibbled with his huge upper canines at the bindings, only to have his muzzle pushed aside by Kota's paw.
"Do not pull it off, or you will have to put new bandages on yourself!"
He chuckled softly, smiling.
"Come now..."
She turned to face him, pressing the tip of her muzzle upon his.
"I will not be a good mother."
She said suddenly, turning her face to the earth. A tiny tear slid, silently, down her nose.
"Of course you will! You have been the best mate in anyplace, I wouldn't change a thing about you."
He lifted his paw gingerly to wick away her tear.
"It will be alright. I will help you best I can, though I can't promise I will be much help. But I love you."
"I love you t-"
She broke off abruptly, and doubled over, as a bolt of pain raged through her.
"What is wrong!?"
"Our pup is coming."

The pain subsided. The sun began to rise. They had a daughter.
Turning her little face upward, she mewled softly, seeking out her mother's warmth. Her parents settled themselves on either side of her ginger flanks.
"She looks like you,"
Kota said in a hoarse voice, nodding to her tiny protruding canines.
"More like you,"
said he, with a deep rumbling noise that sounded like something between a laugh and a purr.
"What shall we name him?"
"You should."
After a pause, the name rose to Kota's lips.
"Valaria."
"The Wolven word for the Earth?"
She nodded, lost in thought.
Oh, God, please don't let her be like me. I was never supposed to come here, never supposed to fall in love, never supposed to have a pup! She wouldn't be able to handle the powers if she hadn't gone through life yet.
She would have to tell Cobalt soon.
I can't do this alone.

Five years later.

I just do not know what he will think...
This was how Kota justified her decision for the past five years. Raising a pup would be impossible if her mate up and left them.
But Valaria was like her. Kota knew from the moment she saw her daughter flying with a little white bird. Flying. She had to teach her to hide her wings in the fur on her shoulders, just like Kota did.
It was hard. But it would be harder without Cobalt.

"Darling?"
Kota called through their cave. Her voice shook, but she tried to conceal it. Just like her wings.
"Mm?"
His long claws clattered on the stone floor as Cobalt padded to her.
"Come outside with me. I don't want to wake Vala'."
She could hardly find the strength to put one paw in front of the other.
"What's wrong?"
He knew she wasn't right. He knew her well, but not well enough. Yet.
"I-I-I... I am an..."
"It is alright. Tell me what is wrong."
It was rare that he was so gentle.
"I am an Angel."
"Of course, but you had best be a bit more modest, Darling..."
He seemed rather taken aback.
"No! That's not what I mean. I am an angel."
For the first time in a long while, she pulled her glistening wings from beneath her fur.
Cobalt made a choking sound and fell backwards.
"You are dead? You are an angel? How could you not tell me?!"
He rose to his paws and leaned toward her. In fury.
"I was afraid! I did not know what you would think of me! It was a mistake!"
"Mistake!? Mistake to stay on earth, mistake to stay with me for eight years, mistake to raise our pup for five of them!?!"
Tears began to rush down her cheeks.
"I was watching you, all those years ago. On my cloud. You made a wish on a shooting star, did you not?"
He merely growled.
"It collided with my flank and knocked me from the Heavens. And I fell in love."
"So did I. But that was then. Before I knew I had decided to spend my life with a Death Omen!"
Kota did nothing but try to wipe the tears, coming thick and fast, from her cheeks.
"Goodbye, Kota."
He ran.
"NO!"
The tears fell upon her paws.
"Mummy?"
The small voice came from the cave entrance.
"Mummy, what's wrong?"
Kota smiled weakly to her Valaria.
"Can you promise me something?"
Valaria nodded vigorously.
"Promise you will never fall in love with a Beast."
