A General Message for All

This thread is for Rares List pet discussions, not spammy questions that you could answer yourself if you took the time to use the search function instead of ignoring the entire front page and posting instead. It is a waste of the moderators' time to go around cleaning up your posts because you refuse to read the fountain of knowledge that is already contained within this thread and expect a personalised answered just for you.

How to use the Search Function

If you see someone posting a spammy question, do not respond to them.
Click the Report button on their post and a moderator will clean it up.

As a suggestion, maybe there should be a 'This is Definitely NOT on the Rares List' list for the most commonly asked pets like the Shima Longtail or the August PPS lion. :3 It would make it easier for people to find specific pets by browsing that list, as using the search function requires them using exactly the right term and spelling, and even that isn't 100%, as previous posters may have used a different name, spelled it differently, or just posted an image without a name at all.

I support this idea. Way too many people think that their high-demand pets are on lists, and it would help eliminate spam.

Yes please! Two pets are asked almost every single time: the Shima Longtail and the August Lion PPS. (to be honest, I'm actually tired of looking at the Shima Longtail by now because I have seen it too many times xD) Makes me almost wish that there was a popup each time someone visted the thread, saying "The Shima Longtail and the August Lion PPS are not on the list" ;A; (I know it's not exactly possible and that it would probably annoy a lot of users, but that's just an impulsive, not-very-serious wish xD)

In addition, some people were misled to believe that certain pets are on the list when they are not (other than the two above, this also includes the Green-nosed January and a few of the VR October/November 08 pets, like the Watermelon dog), so they get confused when they can't find the pet on the list no matter how hard they try, even though:

- someone has that pet in a "Rares List Pets" trade group, and/or

- someone is convinced that a certain rare pet is on the list ("I paid an advent for this!") and attempts to convince others of this as well (and this becomes a problem with the "follow the crowd" mentality: "everyone's paying an advent for this, so it must be on the rares list!")

A list with just the commonly asked pets would be nice. -nods- I don't think it would be very extensive; there aren't many pets that are asked every day (hyperbole) without fail, after all.

I'm confused why people seem to think pets are on the Rares List when they aren't, when we have pictured lists. It takes what, 10 seconds to look at the picture and see it's not there? Perhaps we ought to make the picture list links more noticeable, or put all three at the top of the guide as well - a sort of, 'search this image for the pet and if it's not here, it's not on the list' type thing. That would be a lot easier for most people than searching the thread or reading text, no?

Well, to be perfectly honest, I think we should do both (for reasons already stated). ^^ Then the amount of questions will drop even further if we have both rather than just having one.

I agree. ^^ It can't hurt to add the list of pets that are definitely not on the list, and making the pictured list links a bit bigger. It will only help take the spam level down.

I do find the idea of a 'not-list' list interesting, but somehow I can see people who pay absolutely no attention mixing them up and thinking those pets are on the list. Its surprising how people can somehow miss 200 size red font that says 'not on the list' bust somehow they do. I could also see people saying 'well its on the rares list thread so it must be rares list'. Or course course people claiming the pets to be rares list because they are on the rares list thread, but at the same time I'm not seeing that as enough justification to make a new thread, which would then be redundant anyway since we want this because of people asking here about the pets. *shrugs* I do like the idea, and I'd agree with it, but I thought I'd point out some potential problems. I'm sure other problems may or may not pop up, but I would expect things like this to happen.

^ I'd have to agree with Noleah. Some people really aren't bright; if we make a list of "commonly asked pets that are not on the list", there will be at least one doorknob who will only read the pet names and think they are actually list pets, or worth close to what's on the list because they were special enough to be mentioned here.

Also, people who don't really speak English may only pay attention to what they've learned to be the pet's name, and not understand the message above it that explains they aren't actually List pets.
