I hoard because it's pretty to see all the pets on the same page, even if there's multiple outcomes in a hoard. And like DaDwarf said, sometimes we work hard tracking down those pets we love, and I know some people overpay for hoard pets sometimes (not always, and it depends on who you talk to.). So I think it's rather rude to ask for a pet in a hoard, especially since I know I lock my hoard groups. Normally, locked groups are *not* for trading, so it's rather implied that the person really doesn't want to trade away the pet(s). Thank you for your questions and curiousity. c:

Update: Bentley Pets now has a full page of the sitting cats from this advent. The white one is in a separate hoard here. c:

I tried to go for a full collection during my first two years on CS, but the thing is, I never really found that satisfying. there were a lot of pets where I just didn't feel like trading for them if I missed them, because they didn't appeal to me enough. The thought of one day having to trade for pets like the Sunjewel was annoying because I could imagine better things to spend my time on than to get some ultra valuable pet that I don't even like the looks of.

I love hoarding for both the challenge and the... aesthetic?
It just looks so nice to have pages full of the same pet(s), and to reach certain numbers. And it makes me way more satisfied to complete a hoard, than to get a full set of pets from a month, or anything like that.

So I just keep my favourite pets + my hoards, and trade off everything else.
I mean, it's not like hoarders' accounts are huge black holes that consume pets and never give anything back out into circulation. The pets need to be obtained somehow, so while we may hoard dozens of one and the same pet, we'll also trade away other pets.

I have, on occasion, traded valuable hoard pets of mine to people who wanted to own them. Sometimes this went well, I even remember one user creating a very cute Oekaki picture of the vixen I gave them. But other times I'd later find the very same pet traded away. Now, everyone can do with their pets what they want, but I don't think that people are automatically more or less deserving of a pet just because it's their dreamie/they don't have it yet/someone has doubles.

And all in all, it's still my belief that if I am able to accumulate dozens of a certain pet, that just goes to prove that it's possible for someone else to get even just one. As long as they can afford it and make an effort to actually look for it.

No no, curiosity is always welcomed here ^^!
For me, one of my reasons for hoarding is the same as Dadwarf's. Having a hoard gives you the opportunity to dress up the same pet over and over again without having to constantly switch out the items on that pet, you know ^^?
I have my other reasons for hoarding as well. Setting an end goal and reaching said end goal is a great feeling; the feeling of accomplishment you get afterwards is always a rewarding one. And I'm one of those hoarders who often goes back to look at a finished hoard because seeing the same pet fill up a page has a neat effect.

I Hoard pets because I love their Design ^^
I also keep one for my Collection most of the time, but for now I only want an "I collect all CS Pets" Collection for the years 2009/2010 til today :D
And if I come across someone having my Hoard pet as a Dreamie - well, if they have the pets to make a fair offer for it I tend to trade them away :)

I hoard for 2 reasons:

1. It gives me a reason to keep playing. I like CS, I've been here forever, but I don't have the time or patience to finish off the rest of my Wishlist (they're all high Rare List pets). Unless I get lucky on the 18th, it's just not going to happen. So hoarding pets gives me something to do and motivation to keep visiting the site.

2. I like the pets. I don't keep most of the monthly pets, I just don't like them anymore. So I keep the ones I like, and if I like them enough, I hoard them.

As for the gifting thing, I worked hard for the rare pets I hoard. If someone wants one, they should be willing to put in the same work, not just leech off of mine.

1: I hoard because I adore the pet so of course I want more of it! Or like my largest hoard, multitail dogs I have a minor obsession with the lines and I haven't yet seen one I dont like. Its also fun to see how many I can collect.

2: just because someone is hoarding a pet doesn't mean its impossible for someone else to get that pet from a different user. And anyone can take a pet and claim that it's their dream pet without it actually being so. Just last week I gifted someone their "dream pet" of an 08 rare and guess where it is? In a trade group. So nope, I wouldn't give one to them simply because there is no way to know if they're being truthful and I work my butt off for my hoards. The entire point of my hoards is to collect as many as possible so why would I set myself back?
Now if I disband a hoard, yeah I'll trade it to someone.

Its so hard to limit my hoards of these advent pets oh my word! I've only got 3-4 hoards from advent so far (one being the multi tails obvs) and I'm hoping I dont give into more since they're eating my fodder

I hoard because it's my nature. Chickensmoothie gives me a harmless outlet for a real life compulsion that would otherwise consume me and probably, honestly, hinder my ability to function in the real world.

On a much more casual note, my collection is complete and I like trading (though it IS more difficult as years go by)
Going around happily snapping up random hoard pets gives me something to do on a site that has become a part of my every day life over the past 7 years.

As far as giving them up...
Have you ever asked a collector or hoarder IRL to give you their stuff?

Let me know how that goes for ya if you ever find yourself in that situation.

The inability to part with stuff is what makes hoarding (not the pixel kind) a serious problem. My inability to part with stuff answers your question. A true hoarder will probably not give you their stuff just because you like it and don't have one. Because they can't.

The nagging guilt and separation issues would haunt them.

Even with non hoard pets, I routinely go through old trades and track down previously owned pets. And I become physically sick to my stomach when I find something I once owned sitting on a dead account. Unloved. And forever alone. Makes me less and less likely to trade off a beloved hoard pet every time I find one of my old pets sitting on an account that hasn't been touched in years.
In my hoards, they are admired and loved every day. I can't guarantee that future for them if I trade them away. People are too wishy washy.

For me, it's a combination of things people have said before. First off I really love the design of the pets I hoard, as they usually remind me of a book, game, character, etc. that I like in real life. I also like having (for the most part) numbers for each hoard that mean something in relation to what the hoard is based off of. For example, all my Beauty and the Beast hoards are set to end at 210 pets, as the curse was to break or kill the Beast when he turned 21. Thus the large numbers are usually the result of the number I found to match the hoard. Of course, I don't like hoarding only 20 of each outcome as I often find that too easy to accomplish, so I usually will add a 0 or something similar to the end of a smaller significant number to make things more interesting.

Secondly, I actually quit this game around the end of 2010/beginning of 2011 and gave away all my pets to a friend. When I came back late 2011 I had almost nothing left on this account and had to build it up from scratch as THAT friend had quit, too, a little after I did. Very frustrating, and to be honest hoarding is the only thing keeping me on this site right now. Once I achieved my longtime dreamie (the Brown Cookie Dog) there was nothing much to keep me here as so many of my other wishlist pets are hard to achieve. I'm actually debating making my account mostly hoard-based (as it pretty much is already) and just keeping pets I actually like the designs of in my collection...

Also I personally don't keep any pets for my collection that are below uncommon in rarity, so the only use I'd have for any of those pets would be as either trade fodder or, if I liked the design, as a hoard. Since I won't keep them in my collection groups, they need their own.

    - - -

As for giving up a hoard pet if it's someone elses dreamie, I most likely would not do so unless they offered overpay. Since so many of my hoard goals are quite large, each pet is a much-needed addition to them. For example, three of my Mass Effect related hoards have end-goals of over 2100 pets!! That's a lot of hunting, trading, and for me at least overpaying at times to get those pets. I work extremely hard to get my hoard pets, and they are in locked groups for a reason. If I can work hard enough for so many of these particular outcomes, it shouldn't be too hard for them to find someone else to trade them one. A lot of people I've tried trading with for hoard pets have simply canceled my fair offers because they don't support hoarding. Why not go find one of them? Just my opinion.

Plus, I pay Chicken Dollars for a lot of hoard pets when trading my fodder just won't cut it, so the fact that I sink actual money into my hoards is a deterrent to trading any pets from them also.

The only exception to this no-trade policy would be pets I haven't actually started hoarding yet and instead am considering hoarding. I gave up an entire possible hoard for my Secret Santa to be able to finish their hoard of the pet, and have traded one of an outcome to people who've missed it in fair trades before. Others, when they were offered upon, I traded away as I figured I didn't really like that pet enough to actively hoard it anyway.

Besides, a lot of the times people are asking me for hoard pets because they "really want one" or it's their "dreamie!" they almost ALWAYS either try to get it for free or for severe underpay. I don't appreciate those kinds of offers and requests, so it makes me much less inclined to trade away any of my hoard outcomes.

Anyway I didn't mean for this reply to get so LONG but here we are! So I'll stop before it gets bigger x^D
