thank you so much for your input! again, considering the disparity and the people saying its ‘just business’(which i highly disagree with on a browser forum based game but thats also not my business), i do think that the best course of action would be to give collectors a way to swap with other collectors, so then mayhaps more people could get what they want

as the majority of the people ive heard from have been in agreement with me, it lets me know that there are people that want to see a change, but considering everything a change may not be possible, at least in the forseeable future

what if i made a thread for likeminded collectors to put their names down, where we could all trade with one another? it could help so many people, old and new players alike. ill start a poll to see, bc im sure theres plenty of people following along that havent responded yet, whether or not they agree with my input

if youre reading this and like my idea, please pick ‘yes’ to my poll, so i can see if enough people would want to do it. itll just be a gauge to see if creating somewhere for collectors to gather in an attempt to avoid ‘the business’ side of the game would be feasible, as itd only work when we have a decent amount of people!

But that's not good for buisness
xD

tbh its not that big of a problem, like just understand how trade works, be careful not to get scammed, wait and evaluate the true value of a pet that seems to be rare cuz it might not be. Like for example, those that were selling the lady bug pps snake for like, 15-20 c$, i doubt they get anyone to buy it. Once rarities comes out, it further decreases the chance so they will have to reduce it. And even if they don't, its not a OMGSR, so many many people do have it! Just look around, lol.

It's buisness, taking opportunity of the hype to sell the pet at high prices or trade for better pets. For one person to gain, another has to lose. Just be a smart buyer and you'll be fine :)

as irritating as it is for people to be up charging ridiculous amounts for pets that often will turn out to be, say, rare at most - I just wanna say that the new releases more frequently containing rarer outcomes does make the game a lot more fun for people like me! I personally don’t want to collect all the newer releases anymore and very casually spend time on this site, and sometimes the new releases just feel kinda boring to me now? don’t get me wrong, the artists do a wonderful job at creating the designs, they’re all gorgeous and really well made! but I personally get excited for the prospect of rarer pets now, whereas in past years most, if not all, new release pets are extremely common to common, with the rarest outcomes being uncommon at most which just kinda bores me. It sucks having to wait for events to get rarer, new pets and it makes me more inclined to spend time here year round with this change ^^

just my 10 cents but there are a lot of valid points on the frustration of people blowing things wayy out of proportion with the rarity stuff!

while i agree with you, again, some people dont want to be involved with ‘business transactions’ and would prefer to ‘have fun playing a game online’

while increased rarities are more fun, im not trashing that in the slightest, theres two very different play styles on this website, and i think the fellow ‘im just here for a good time’ collectors ive met here deserve to have that good time without worrying abt trying to ‘do business’

i mean, if you want to talk business, people boycott and protest against businesses all the time. this would just be starting that movement XD plenty of us deal with the struggles of ‘business’ in our daily lives. we come to places like Chicken Smoothie to take a break from that.

I will also say, as a person that has experience across a myriad of websites and games, I have NEVER seen something like this before, especially on such an extreme scale. maybe im just naive, but i personally think both the collectors AND people that dont want to or CANT AFFORD to shell out insane amounts of c$ for a pet they should be able to get for a simple swap elsewhere at least deserve the opportunity to get a decent chance at getting something more than common

I'm going to comment here because I commented on the other thread...

When I see people talk about the trading economy being "just business" what that always means is taking advantage of people's desperation and exploiting their own community members for their own gains. This is a deeply dangerous attitude for a social group to have. When you are in a community you must both give and take and many of you never give. Part of being a good community member is letting other people get a good deal too. The benefit of not having rarities during the month is to provide a blank slate so that everyone can trade freely for what they need. Assigning values to these pets negates the point of monthly swaps and hurts the community. When swaps have one pet common and the other uncommon, you did NOT "lose out" or get "burned", those pets had no value. You only lost the opportunity to squeeze more out of others.

This relates to my previous statement about a vocal portion of the CS community being mean and entitled. This portion also tends to engage with under-handed trading tactics that border on scams. This is also why rude, angry, or otherwise inappropriate conduct is so common on the trading scene. It feels like this crowd forgets they are interacting with real people and not NPCs to bleed dry. It is tiring to have to keep arguing about this harmful behavior over and over. Threads like this pop on every few months and I am glad this is putting a finger on the problem instead of people ranting about bad trades they have gotten.

It is completely unacceptable and inexcusable that such a vital part of the game has now become inaccessible to most of the community. We need to establish that this kind of behavior is not acceptable and will not be tolerated by not trading with them. No matter how long it takes you to find the last pet on your wishlist of the month you must not give in and wait it out or else everyone will pay the price. I think that creating a group of dependable traders for monthly swaps is a lovely idea and I support it. I am always open to monthly swaps for anyone who needs them and thank you to everyone who is already setting a good example.

i haven’t really had a problem with the rarities. i agree that it’s disappointing to see others take advantage of it by selling them off for overinflated values in what should be a fun casual game, but i feel like that’s a vocal minority and i honestly haven’t experienced any hostility personally. sure, when i do miss a ‘rarer’ outcome it might take a bit of searching and a handful of cancelled trades, but usually i’m able to find a willing trade partner in a day or two or sometimes i even get it from an adoption center. i agree that making friends or joining something like one of the discord communities also helps.
i already have sooo many recent common double pets who have been sitting in my trade folder for years that i am slowly moving to my own adoption group, so while i do get some of the frustrations i also think taking away any uncommon rarities from monthlies would just cause its own set of problems. fostering a positive community that’s prepped to recognize unfair practices is the best way to fight the issues presented here

thanks for posting!!

i do just wanna say i dont think we need to remove the new changes altogether, but just start making it easier for those that dont enjoy the ‘business model’ CS suddenly has to connect with people thatll help them out when theyre in need. a lot of people cant spend days checking in to search for a single missing outcome; many people rush because they dont want to lose opportunities

separate from this, i do plan on making some sort of side group: i dont know if id be capable of doing it here, but im not too sure abt opening up a discord either. im more than willing to discuss options in private messages with anyone interested in helping me start this!

even if we are a ‘vocal minority’, im sure plenty of other people would appreciate a more relaxed place to swap with others and make friends!!

Just wondering, how do you plan to manage your collectors group? are there going to be set rules on how to trade between each other? will there be rules on who is allowed to join, and what about players that potentially join, swap for your uncommons, then flip them for profit? i dont know, those were the first worries that came to my head. i do see where your good intentions lie of course :)

also i wanna say, i really do not think unassigned rarity pets have 0 value whatsoever, and i personally believe saying as much is as much of a lie as saying your euc is totally worth 500 old rares. i think there are definitely signs as to what pet is harder to come by, even if the rarity bar doesnt tell you. so i honestly find that sentiment a bit harmful, especially since newer players are the most likely to not understand how rarity and litter odds work. if a new player traded their eventual euc for a common litterswap because they were told all unassigned rarity pets are worth nothing, i imagine they would feel the exact same as many of you in this thread by the next month! and they will not even have the resources to try and re-obtain that euc for their collection!

Giant Squids are sweet, and i'm pretty sure that they have the real ultimate power. Cephalopods in general are pretty sweet, too.

see thats why i havent started it bc i know there may be some things that need to be ironed out. i dont wish to discuss too much in the open, but it would rely on an honor system: as long as youre decent abt general trades and following CS rules with trades then i dont really see a problem

when i started playing, anyone i interacted with only swapped monthly litters for their counterparts, or other monthlies. theres easily something to be said abt the demand for c$, how the game only has a paid currency (unless you count tokens). the pets arent ‘valued’ because theyre brand new, the overhype pushed by this false scarcity has caused people to assign a value to them before theyre even marked with rarity. one could call it scalping if we wanted to get down to it

since theyd only be swapped with fellow unassigned pets, there wasnt any concern about ‘value’ or ‘business’ because people simply just wanted to swap and complete collections

i would like the group to be on CS, as while discord is popular i dont want to make people have to create an account if they dont have discord. again, if anyone wants to be in this group and help out with it, please DM me
