The Dogtag has been placed on tier 7 of the OMGSR list as that was the majority vote on the poll! I'll allow this to settle in for a little bit before we move on to placing the next pet.

So... is this just a remake of the rares list? Wasn’t part of the debate to not remake it that it was too outdated and would take too long to revise? What’s the difference here?
Also, isn’t the combined demand and rarity thing one of the biggest flaws about the old list as well? It would be a little different if it was demand based or rarity based alone. Again I’m really seeing no difference other than format?

I'm seeing a difference, actually.
3. Demand is a tricky subject because there's no way to tell how much will be incorporated into this list; the pets are placed by community input so its up to user's opinions on where the pets are placed.
4. Placements are decided by the community. A poll will be placed asking which tier the pet should go on and the majority vote is where the pet is placed.
If I'm reading this right, placements are now decided on the gut feeling of 15 people with no logic, evidence or proof of trades. Just where anyone who votes on the poll believes a pet should be placed. If the majority votes for a dogtag to be the lowest pet on the list, that's where it's placed.

This, too. A community guide involves the community. Not a select or random 15 people. If this is truly a community thread, a bunch of the community should be voting and the owner should be waiting for those votes. A group of 15 people can differ from the next group of 15 people and those can both have different outcomes than 500-700 or more voting. And if the majority of users aren’t in a rush to vote doesn’t that tell you something? I’m not for or against but like I said before I’m seeing a lot of similarities and you can bet sooner or later old issues will come up with this one too the way it’s formatted and how similar it is to the original rares list. 😕

I think the intent is that it will grow to encompass more of the community. 15 people as you are talking about are not the target audience. Also, I do agree there were issues with the old rares list but, many people voted to keep it. While retire ended up getting the majority, that doesn't make the opinions of those who wanted to keep the list invalid. Also, nobody is forcing you to follow this list. If you don't agree with it, there is no need to be so negative here. You are welcome to find another list, or give helpful suggestions, not just criticize.

Yet if it is a community input, we do have the right to criticize what we see is wrong with this guide.

Keep in mind that when we started The Rares List in 2010, it was also just a small group of people using trades and their own personal experience to place pets. ^^ It takes a lot of time for a project like this to gain momentum and to have a group of users working on it.

This is not a remake of The Rares List Guide. These pets are placed in a different manner than The Rares List pets ever were. This list is based on opinions of users rather than rarity, demand, etc. These pets are placed wherever the majority feels the placement should be. This keeps things a lot less restricted than The Rares List Guide as here there is no range to pick from, rather you can voice your opinion no matter what it is and have it heard.

Placement is not just decided by "15 people with no logic". Placement is decided by whoever wants to join in and help place the pet whether that be by trade evidence, demand, rarity changes; anything that makes you want to place the pet where you voted. Pets will always be placed with the majority vote.

Placement is not limited to 15 people. Placement polls are welcome to all of the community who would like to vote. Everyone is welcome to vote in the poll and it so happens that only 34 users voted in the Dogtag poll.

As said above, everyone is welcome to vote in the poll. This guide does involve the community because the whole community is welcome to vote in the poll. Sure, there aren't many votes but nobody is forced to use this guide and if the 34 people who voted on the poll are the only users who want to use this guide than that is fine too. I'm sure eventually some issues are going to pop up but as with any guide, this one will have its flaws too.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thanks for the opinions, everyone! But as Seasonal stated above, sometimes community projects take some time. It's up to users to come to this thread on their own and help place pets. I'm sorry if you're not happy with the placement of the Dogtag; as the guide states, he will be eligible for re-evalution a year from his placement date. Also, if you're not happy with this guide, you aren't forced to use it! As stated, this is only a guide and not rules. If only 34 people want to use this guide, that is fine!

I think there should be a limit though as to how little community influence there is available for any public ally posted guide.
Seasonal’s logic is very flawed based on not only was there any or enough people who wanted to help with the list but could only get to a point of “agreeing with what was said by the elite.” You can see this in the old thread. But also couldn’t really suggest more since it was always shut down. However the main reason it’s flawed is that... this ain’t 2010 anymore. Things have changed and we’re head deep into cancel culture.
It’s 2019. The rares list is dead. The rares list lives in locked solitude as a historical landmark now to show future users what not to do, otherwise you will see how badly the community can turn on you. You don’t see the users who were mainly pro list active in helping cs users anymore because of the backlash. Many left due to the pressure.
This will happen again if the same history is repeated.
I think no decision of any pet placement should be made until a option hits 100 votes (aka you need 85 more votes in the winning vote to be able to move on). In any guide. Users should be able to make many guides if they so desire, but the community should also decide whether they decide to support a guide going forward or not. There is no reason that a guide someone makes should be there to be used if there is no one / minimal people supporting it. This is where I believe a line should be for this guide mess we are in. If there is minimal votes accumulated, then these guides are not wanted by the community.
To me, if you publish a guide publicly and not for self use, it should then be allowed maximum participation by the community. No ifs or buts. So that means that there needs to be a chance for a guide to hit 100 participation votes in an option (note: not total) before moving on.
