There's no rule in place forcing someone to give pets back. The accept/cancel function even gives you a second chance to make sure of what you're doing, if you're not paying attention its usually your own fault...
As for my own kinda rant...
Someone wanted 55 pets from me, most of my common trade fodder but they threw in an elf PPS and a NPPS with unknown raritys for good measure.
They offered me a 'rare' zombie horse.
So I don't really know if its fair or not, doesn't help that I simply don't WANT the ugly thing and I certainly won't give up 55 pets for it...
