Hello, I would like to add my hoard under this category:

•Record: ~Largest Litter (same blanket) 2008 DOG hoard~
•Mascot:

•Number: 170 (include Nick cake - 144 without)
•Group Link: Link

The Nick cake would not be considered part of this litter, so in order to qualify for the record, they would have to be removed from the group!

Okay, I moved Nick Cake dogs to the different group, so now there are only special release cake dogs to be able to add them to the category (if the category remain of course)
Then I would like to update my new number to the "Most Active Hoards" under Miscellaneous category.
And new number is 6741 Groups! ^-^
You can add "(Last count: January 2024)" under the number if you want so it is known, when was all groups counted.

My reasoning for voting to remove the rarity-based hoards is that I feel it's a bit unfortunate to have a record based on things that can and will change over time.
Species, years, release occasions... those things do not change, any record holder of those records can only be beaten if someone actually hoards more pets. But all it takes for someone to lose their rarity record is an update, which I personally feel is a little sad lol.

I don't think there's much value in keeping the category around just so there are more slots for people to submit records to. I think if you want to make more, there are many more viable alternatives for fresh categories that would work better than "rarities".
(For example, the holiday pets category could easily get subcategories for the four big annual events. The general "holiday" record could stay as it is, as it accommodates irregular and small holidays.)

I voted to keep the year categories and remove the split, but in relation to the vote option about dog vs non-dog:
I'd also suggest applying the result of that poll to the 2nd gen/3rd gen section. Alternatively, if the goal is to create more viable record slots, 2nd gen could be a record in each species section instead.

I also think the "pps hoard" vs "non-dog pps hoard" record is a bit... redundant?
Right now we have PPS records for "all" and "non-dog", but also PPS sections under dogs, cats, horses etc. The general "PPS hoard" record is meant to be fully mixed-species-inclusive and doesn't need a split-off that's "anything except dogs".
IMO it'd be more cohesive to move the current "non dog pps" (it's lions only) to "special species" instead. That category is for "uncommon" (non-monthly) linearts and already has a litter and single outcome slot, adding PPS slots to it would make it fall more in line with the species sections from page 1.

I aboslutely agree about what you've said about the rarity hoards here - it was one of the reasons I started to think they may be better off just removed, and with the way the vote is leaning, it looks like that may end up being the case! Especially since the rarity update, a lot of the lower rarities change much more frequently now.

You make an excellent point about the 2nd/3rd gen hoard as well - I will put up a vote for that one next! I honestly don't think we need more categories than we currently have, and certain species only have a few 2nd gens, so I don't think there would be much to gain from adding a "gen" section for each species.

And lastly, you're totally correct about the all PPS non-dog hoard. I've gone ahead and just removed that one, actually, because anything that would fit in there would just be a double from all the species PPS categories.

Lastly! Some of you may have noticed that I now also have ownership of the Special Pet Hoards World Record Thread as well (thanks for Lufi for all their hard work on the thread over the years!).

With this change, I am highly considering merging the two threads into one ultra-mega-hoard-record thread, that contains every single species/lineart in one place. The original reason this thread was split off into "monthlies" and "special linearts" was because the original thread owner did not have time to update so many categories - but I am more than up to the task, and I think it would be easier for everyone to have all our record-holding hoards in a single thread!

This is something I will be working on over the next week or two, and will probably make a new thread after this poll is concluded (barring any complications). Then, we can move to the new thread and continue polling on other matters (such as 2nd/3rd gen dog v. non-dog, the addition of more event categories, etc).

Thank you to everyone who has weighed in so far, and please don't hesitate to continue making suggestions, so we can make this thread (and any future iterations) the best it can be!

Hmm, if you're going to potentially merge the thread together anyway, then yeah, I think just doing a complete set of records for every species is def the way to go, instead of trying to figure out nebulously which linearts are "common" enough to warrant having separate records and which ones have to be crammed together into "special" xD

I wonder if 2nd gens/3rd gens could simply be treated like a "species" too. That would certainly dodge the problem that some species don't have as many litters, and cover the wacky cases like Archie x Cleocatra being mixed species :P


Suggestions about the event categories etc were really just because someone brought up the matter of making space for more records so more people can submit/participate, but that's certainly something that can easily be held off on, since it may not even be "needed" for the time being.

(I certainly have my thoughts about some categories after all these years LOL. Like, is an artist hoard really harder to verify than my Theme hoard? There's numerous litters where I actually had to message the artists and ask if the pets are pastries hahaha)

I definitely think it would be good if both the world record threads are combined, there is some overlap, like the different rodent species have records in both threads! It always confused me what species were “special” especially species like deer that are regularly released as monthlies lol!!
I can see why the rarity hoard records need to go, but getting rid of the yearly records makes me kind of sad, to be honest. I feel like having the yearly hoard records makes it more welcoming to new hoarders. I understand that some people might not think that’s important but these threads actually inspired me a lot when I started hoarding, trying to break a record was really fun! And as the years go by, the species hoards get even larger with no hope for a new hoarder to ever catch up, but the playing field is more level with the yearly hoards.
But I understand if you want to get rid of them, but I don’t see the harm in having them really. Why is having more records bad?
If every year had: Largest litter hoard and largest single variation hoard, that would be 34 records, which is a lot still I guess. I’m not very good at arguing my point I guess. I’m not even sure why I care so much, it’s not like I have a year record. These are just my thoughts, they’re not very planned out or anything.

Yes, the plan right now is to create a dedicated section for every single species, and then we can go from there! I do think that more “special” hoards would be fun, but we’ll see where we’re at once I’ve put it all together (and I agree, I think an artist hoard would certainly be verifiable). I appreciate your input! <3

That was my thought as well! Now that I’d be updating both anyway, it just makes sense to have it all in one place, and we can remove the overlap as well as make everything more comprehensive overall.

And while I completely understand your point about the yearly hoards, I do think 34 hoard is quite a lot for a single category, especially once we have a category for every single species/lineart - and most of the year hoards would just be smaller versions of hoards in other categories. I can recognize on some level wanting more accessible records, but on the other hand, world records aren’t necessarily meant to be “accessible”, if that makes sense.

If someone wants to hold a record just to hold a record, and hoards a specific pet/litter just to try to make it on the board, I don’t have a problem with that at all. There are actually quite a few records under 500 that could be more easily beaten - so I just don’t know if we should have a whole 34 records available just because of this reason.

Sorry, I went on a bit of a ramble there haha! I hope I made sense, and I’m definitely not trying to be argumentative in any way, just wanted to explain my reasoning for why this category might warrant removal. The rarity category will likely end up being removed, and then I think I’d like to hold a second poll on the years category before we make any final decisions (but if it is kept around, the dog vs. non-dog split will be removed).

Regardless of what happens, I’m very committed to ensuring these decisions are made together by the hoarding community, rather than unilaterally by myself. This thread is for all of us, after all! :D

Also a word of encouragement to the newer peeps - newer pets are much easier to trade for, older pets get harder to find and acquire! We have some hoards on the list that are many years old, and an ambitious, record-seeking person could definitely beat them with the same effort the previous holder put in :D

My record with the Sushi PPS cat is ~13 years old, I beat the previous holder while my hoard pet was suuuuper common.
(Fun fact, I hoarded them because they were the first ever PPS cat on CS and I was so happy we got a PPS on that lineart!)
A couple years later another person managed to match me completely! We ended up taking different record slots for funsies because both of us wanted to cap our hoard at 2000, but if they had really wanted to, they could've knocked me off mine xD
