This Is The Technically Correct Version by how many users have them on their wishlist, while ours is just one mixed with rarity and demand. Supply and demand, catch my drift?

I find it utterly sad that the Zebras have gone down so much in rarity. When I started posting on the CS forums (late 2009), there were 27 Zebras total and it was a dream to own one. I mean, I barely managed to trade my Mountain Zebra away for a Nontag and Spotted Tribal. I consider myself strangely lucky to even get offered that; I held an auction for mine and I was getting offers of one UR Dog and a few common September '08 pets.

Another factor would definitely have to be exposure to the community. More people have been displaying their Zebras in signatures and auctioning them, making the phrase "Zebra Auction" seem overly used. When the Zebra is seen more often, people automatically think that it is more common than it is.

The accidental June '10 release of about 30 Mountain Zebras really took a toll on their demand. A lot of people witnessed it and thought that it severely affected the rarity; and, even though Tess said that it didn't, I don't believe that. There were about 30 extra Zebras of one type that month; I'm surprised that they didn't turn Veyr Rare right then and there.

Same here, I agree aswell. I remember trying so hard to get a zebra, and that there were only so many out there (such as there was only 3 plains zebras then) I managed to get one around christmas. Then the rarity seemed to drop after the June release, and demand seemed to drop aswell. I think the plains zebra and grevys are still pretty darn rare, but the mountain zebra to me isn't since that is the most common and also they dropped down to very rare.

Now you can barely get even a few of those pets with a zebra, its hard enough trying to get people to offer on your auctions aswell since they dont seem that high in demand, or to other people they arn't worth much.

However, it isn't just the 18th of december that has brought down their value.
I follow the trading threads very closely, and for a long time now I've been seeing
people getting nothing but low offers on their zebras. Even in auctions. Even when
they have had a moderately low 'auto'.

It appears there aren't as many of the 'Gotta cath 'em all' collectors going around
anymore, and even less of them actually have the trading fodder to match
the value that zebras used to have.

So, even though the zebras are still rare, and a lot of people may want them...
People just don't pay as much for them anymore, no matter how you try to
tell them that your zebra is still worth that and that.

This list takes into count both rarity and the popularity. And zebras? They
lost theirs like Vanilla Ice the One Hit Star did.

I agree too, that is disappointing *sighs*...course it seems like that's all that people are getting these days is crap deals on things that are worth a lot more! Personally I kind of blame CS getting so popular and bringing in tons of new people...I mean it is a good thing but one of the major downfalls of I think is this exact problem. That and I guess Zebras just aren't as popular any more...and to tell you the truth I'd rather have an old July Dog over a Zebra that's just me though!

Rarity-wise, it's the same exact pet, simply offered on a different date. However, some people want to keep their collections orderly, so they seek true-date pets to have a collection that follows the order of the Archive. Some people keep all of their Dogs in one group and want their Toxics to come after their Sorbets, for example. It doesn't really apply with Zebras, though, as there are only five different Zebras on CS and most people would simply make a new group for them. Of course, those who collect equines would possibly want their Zebras in their group under the original release date.

Yes, this. However, I do also seem to recall zebras taking a significant hit in demand when it seemed to be the trend to erroneously devalue special release pets. The white dragon took the same hit, as people were saying these pets weren't worth much since they are released repeatedly. Which I believe is just factually incorrect - I think I posted a while ago about that...but nonetheless it affected their demand. I remember not so long ago seeing INSANE offers for zebras, but that dropped off rather quickly.

It is a little bit disconcerting to see a zebra go Very Rare. Those and the banana were the pets that were OMGsr for as long as I can remember.

Anyway, is anyone getting an idea about how rare/valuable the new UR pets are? I'd be wary to assign any real value to them yet, with demand still so inflated, but initial impressions might be worth discussing.

Well, I offered My UR Malk and two other pets for a Yellow Toxic ([url=http://www.chickensmoothie.com/trades/viewtrade.php?id=5105193&userid=1297&signature=8A2w4ZnLyPdZ7vABzxLn-w]click here to see the trade) and at least five people agreed that it was unfair to me. I'm not sure if it's inflation or what, but I was only valuing the UR Malk at a Rose PPS when it was initially released.

The Grapes are a giant fad, in my opinion. I've seen people offering Sorbets and Jokers to get their hands on the little grape bunches. The UR Apple was going for a kidney when it was released and it dropped in value, so I won't be surprised if the Grapes do the same exact thing.

I'm going to try and not let the fact that I don't like the new UR Dog as much to alter my opinion, but I really don't think that it went over well with the entire CS community. Honestly, you either love it or you don't; I'm not a fan of three tails, so I ended up not really liking it and I'm sure that a lot of people felt the same way. I've seen offers around the same value as the Grapes.

This this this. Back in the day, most of the 'wealth' on CS was concentrated in certain accounts. Now it's spread out: lots of people have up to a handful of July and August dogs, but only a few really have a gold mine. That leaves the "problem" of people paying less to get pets - sometimes it's not even the demand that forces a drop, it's the resources people have on hand to pay with. (I'm not saying the demand for zebras hasn't dropped - it has - just reiterating another factor.)

I, too, remember when Zebras were extremely rare -- if you saw a Zebra auction, you just had to click on it even if you knew you couldn't afford it.
The 'great Mountain Zebra epidemic' also brought the rarity down quite a bit. On every page of the first 30 or so pages of the June discussion topic, there was at least one person who had a foal in their signature.
I think it's rather sad that the Zebras just aren't that rare anymore ... There's never been any pet higher than the Zebras in rarity as far as I know, but then the Sunjewel - which wasn't even the rarest dog on the site in the past - just passed it.
It's interesting, really, how a pet can go from ... say, seventh rarest to first in a matter of weeks.
@Morgan - I fully agree with this, I see newer players all the time with a decent number of URs, July/Augusts, etc.

This brings up a question I've wondered for a while ... roughly how many zebras are there on the site currently?
