i got told that a rainbow mane could fetch you a common toxic. and someone bidded a toxic in my auction for one. i think they are a lot rarer than they are made out to be by this list.

People hold auctions to get over-offers :] Most people don't pay more than a common balloon dog
for RBM's, so just because one person does, does not mean that the RBM is worth more all of sudden.

I was just writing a lenghty post about the zebras... XD I'll cut it down.

Zebras totally need to be moved down the list. You are insanely lucky to
get a dogtag for them these days, often you can't get that even. Their popularity
just has came crashing down, and the most common of them has now gone to
"Very Rare".

The other two still remaing OMGSR, but I see more and more people having
big troubles trading/auctioning their zebras. I also see more and more low
offers on zebras - from people who I suspect would know their rarities.
And more and more value/trading questions from people WITH zebras being
torn about accepting a unusually good offer - which according to this
list is always underpaying.

I think this is a very helpful thread.
Last year December when I happened to get like 3 extra Jewel Suns people kept arguing with me that it was not as rare as a Zebra. Yet, the ONLY auction up for a JSD since I actually joined that I seen was my own (as far as I am aware). After I closed mine was the ONLY other time I seen someone else had auctioned one.

However, there was like 2 to 7 total maybe more of the Zebras (of all kinds) that month, which were also had appeared few times even in the earlier months of 2009. So you tell me? Which was rarer. :P I told them numerous of times it all has to do with Supply (how many there are) and Demand (How many people are looking for them)
Which the demand for the Jewel Sun was out weighing the supply. Even back then.

I have yet to see a Jewel Sun this year. lol (not that I want another, I'd only end up trading it since in my opinion I think hoarding is unfair. I like other people to have a chance at obtaining them.)

Edit: In my opinion the Jewel Sun should be a OMG so rare! Lol :0 Considering even this year there is LOTS AND LOTS of Zebras up for Auction.

I find it utterly sad that the Zebras have gone down so much in rarity. When I started posting on the CS forums (late 2009), there were 27 Zebras total and it was a dream to own one. I mean, I barely managed to trade my Mountain Zebra away for a Nontag and Spotted Tribal. I consider myself strangely lucky to even get offered that; I held an auction for mine and I was getting offers of one UR Dog and a few common September '08 pets.

Another factor would definitely have to be exposure to the community. More people have been displaying their Zebras in signatures and auctioning them, making the phrase "Zebra Auction" seem overly used. When the Zebra is seen more often, people automatically think that it is more common than it is.

The accidental June '10 release of about 30 Mountain Zebras really took a toll on their demand. A lot of people witnessed it and thought that it severely affected the rarity; and, even though Tess said that it didn't, I don't believe that. There were about 30 extra Zebras of one type that month; I'm surprised that they didn't turn Veyr Rare right then and there.

dont worry, just think about what i do, one day in a few years you could own the ONLY true date zebra on cs that is still alive!!

...there are no 'true date' zebras. Zebras are released every month with horse newborns.
There is just a super slim chance of getting one.

In case you haven't noticed, age of the pet on this site only matters if they are
different pets. If it is the same pet with a different age date, it is still worth the same.

The only reason people look for truedates is because they want their pets to sit in certain
part of the group. And since zebras have no actual release date, even the most OCD collectors
have no specific release date to bother with.

Agreed... Completely with you. People complain about Dec. 18th being a bad thing for bringing down rarities, but they should be looking at this more. :\

This Is The Technically Correct Version by how many users have them on their wishlist, while ours is just one mixed with rarity and demand. Supply and demand, catch my drift?
