I absolutely love this growth, but doesn't it remind anybody else of wallpaper (it isn't a bad thing!)? Especially with the white swirl on it?

They actually rarely do with these types of litters c:
All colours on the newborn can be used in any amount on the individual outcomes - so a yellow kitten doesn't imply that all or even most of the growths will have a yellow base, as it was up to each artist to decide which colours of the palette they want to use and how much of it.^^

Can someone explain what these litters are.....

For this litter, what happens is that the GH team (or rather, those of us who want to participate) comes together to create a cat litter where each person designs a single outcome.
All of us have to use the same colour palette (the colours you see represented on the newborn), but other than that, there is no set theme, and we can do whatever we want design-wise as long as we stick to the colours.
Typically, people like attempting to guess who made which outcome, so there's usually a lot of mass guessing going on here, and artists may drop hints for people to follow.
This is only the second time there is a litter made by our team, but there has been a long-standing tradition for moderators, artists and the like to make a dog litter like this since 2009 - currently they get released annually every September. (You'll hear that one be referred to as 'staff litter'.)
