Why can't I adopt from the big box on the 18th of December?

Because the 18th gives you the chance to get older pets, many people are tempted to cheat. To help keep the CS economy in order, Nick implemented a system that will stop new members from adopting from the box.

Because I've seen members who joined the 17th (Dec. 17th 2014) their pets from the box, however I was unable to get mine when I first joined in 2011.

Just curious.

Beemo - There's a limit on who can adopt and who can't, but it seemed like this year that was reduced to people joining on the 18th itself. This limit is known to change, last year people who joined around 2 weeks before the 18th could not adopt. I see you joined on the 18th of december so you could not adopt - just a precaution for the so many cheater accounts.

You should be totally fine. Only people who joined on the 18th or just before might be unable to adopt.
