Pound "very rare drought" discussion

I would not mind there being only the lost and found for a while. I keep missing the pound anyway, and it has been disappointing lately when I do come. I end up waiting too long and settling on a recent duplicate.

Giving the pound a break, seems like a good idea. Meanwhile if staff could figure out how to stop people from auto adopting, that would help.

the "botting" thing keeps coming up more and more frequently, and while i can personally recall maybe 1 or 2 staff acknowledgements of this theory, i don't think very much has been said or done to ease these concerns. would be nice to get some insight, because my thought is that if the issue is as prominent as some of us assume, there's no way it's ALL going under the radar. my opinion is that there is likely a handful of users utilizing something like this, if any at all, and the problem probably leans more toward outdated servers than a large amount of users using a software for grabbing rares. i toyed with the botting theory for a while, but i realized that A. my thoughts on the issue fluctuated based on my own luck and B. i only post my rare+ grabs on the pound pets thread, which wasn't even something i was conscious of for a while, and it probably has looked at times like i get something valuable every opening, which is Very Far From True. sometimes our perception of another user's activity simply isn't the truth. that doesn't mean the concern isn't real and valid about cheating.

the registered online user count usually goes up about 1k, within a minute or two, each opening. discord bots skim the pound pets page to create an image of everything in it, and send reminder pings right before it opens. people who may otherwise miss the pound by not checking the site constantly are now able to make each opening. more people are paying attention to the pound. is that making the difference? maybe.
that's sorta my theory, but hopefully soon we'll get a real idea of what can be seen from the coding end and we'll know what's causing the random lag issues. it gets bad at very strange times

imo the pound should close completely and recover for a while. we've made it through long lost and found periods before events many times, knowing exciting pounds are just on the other side of our wait. i wouldn't mind the pound being below rare only, either, though. it would be refreshing

Yeah, I think there needs to be some reworking done to the pound as well. I get just as excited for the Lost & Found as I love dress-ups, so I wouldn’t mind a temporary closure or EUCs and under only

I’m fine as the pound as it is. I just returned to collecting on this site after many years so there’s a lot of pets I am missing right now which include a lot of uncommon and under, so with a big wish list I never know what rarity I’m adopting from the pound anyway. If my wish list was just full of rares then I would still be fine with how the pound is I would just adopt to fill a little adopting centre or something or adopt for trading purposes. I would be sad if the pound closed or stopped being as frequent because it’s the only reason I come on most days when there’s no events or monthly adoptions. I’m not really into the lost and found because I don’t really do items

I don't go to the pound expecting to get very rares± for trade fodder. I keep my pound pets. 🙃
I'm sure more people than me do, too. So, not every vr± from pound openings goes back into circulation anyway. 🤷‍♀️

Can I be bluntly honest? The website feels more pleasant now that the VR Pets have dried up from the Pound.

Everyone used the Pound as a chance to just get new Rare+ Pets/Old Pets and that was about it. Now that most of the older Pets are gone, it actually feels like people are using the Pound to find Pets they actually want.

Don’t get me wrong, I understand why people like there being R+ Pets. So did I. It’s, on paper, another way to give newer or returning users a fair, fighting chance to get something valuable. But to be honest, until the website’s issues get fixed, I don’t think it’ll ever truly be what people imagine it to be.

And I don’t feel like the issues are going to be fixed anytime soon. The problem has just escalated way too much to easily counteract it anymore.

I don’t know if I’m in support for any one method being used, as the answer won’t be that simple. But I actually wouldn’t mind if they end up making Pounds EUC and under for a while, or shift to L&F only.

My apologies for the wild opinion I'm about to throw. I don’t think anyone has said anything I’m about to haha.

But I do think closing the pound to try to generate more rare+ is a fine idea..but I feel like the fault of that is it relying too much on generous players. You don’t really get anything from donating to the pound. If we’re all waiting for banned accounts to get cleaned and donated, it feels..wrong. Like morally wishing for a high value account to get wiped because we want the pound to be filled. Neither of these feel right.

I do think the pound should either have a very small chance to generate a rare+ out of no where, or some type of reward system for donating high value pets. This may create problems during events, I see that already. I do think it could be scaled as time passes on though, say only filling the reward meter for any pet older than a year or two birth date wise. Prevents event rare spam, prevents Dec 18 disasters, and could potentially solve the pets being hoarded to inflate prices. What the reward should be I do not know, that could be a community discussed thing.

Otherwise, I do think closing the pound for a brief moment or doing common releases might be good if we want to wait it out. Not the best solution to me as a whole, but best for the time being in my opinion. I’m not really a fan of items so I don’t think it’s fair to comment on the L&F.

That would violate the sites own rules on adoption centers giving out prizes to people who donate I think??
