What do you hoard? I hoard cats.

Why do you hoard them? Because cats are my favorite animal.

How large is your hoard? 176 pets, at the moment.

What is your goal for the hoard? To have one of every cat on CS.

Do you overpay for hoard pets/items? No.

What was the first pet/item in your hoard? Somaya the cat.

How did you get into hoarding? Did you get the idea from seeing other people's hoards, or did you just decide to do it on your own?

I got into hoarding sometime in late 2010/early 2011. Coming in to CS and seeing how many pets there were and their rarities, I knew that I had no desire for a full collection (acquiring such is what actually pushed me away from a different pet site into CS's open arms), and after being familiar with the concept or hoarding on other pet sites and reading a few posts here about how hoarding is one way to play the game, I figured, "hey, might as well hoard some of my recent favorites!". And 100+ hoards later, here I am.

Do you hoard on impulse, or do you put a lot of thought into which pets you hoard and why?

I'd say about 90% of my hoards were started on impulse. And as 90% of my hoards are recent or semi-recent pets, that kind of goes hand-in-hand. "Ooooh, I like that dog/cat/pony/etc., and look... I got five of them in my adopts. HOARD TIME." That's not to say that the hoards are thoughtlessly slapped together; sometimes a pet will make me think of a favorite book or character or theme, and that only intensifies my desire to hoard it.

If your hoard(s) is/are common or fairly easy-to-get pets, does it ever get to a point when all you feel like you ever do is trade for your hoard?

Not really. Because the majority of my hoards are VC or at the very least Common, it's not a terribly drawn-out process to acquire my hoards. And as I only hoard about 20 of a pet, that doesn't make it feel like too much of a chore. I lose interest fairly quickly, so easy-to-finish hoards are a little pleasure of mine; they make me feel accomplished. ^^

How did you get into hoarding? Did you get the idea from seeing other people's hoards, or did you just decide to do it on your own?

I've seen a few hoards before and as far as I remember, I quite liked the idea of owning a few more of my favourite pets. I ultimately decided to be a "mini-hoarder", because I like so many different pets.
That means, I try to collect only 20 of each pet and then a hoard is complete. I also feel that having only 20 in a hoard, these 20 are more special to me than collecting hundreds or thousands of one pet.

Do you hoard on impulse, or do you put a lot of thought into which pets you hoard and why?

Impulse.
I only hoard pets I really, really love.
There are many pets which I find awesome and do like a lot, but I don't hoard them. But the instant I fall in love with a pet, I want to hoard it.

There are SOME hoards that are not exactly mine. I hoard them for a friend from another browsergame who occasionally sees the new pets and says "oh I love this one".
For example, she loves the red one, I wanted the purple one, so I decided to do a checkered hoard ^^

But I do think a lot about it once I get that hoard-feeling, especially about how I name the hoard. If I hoard entire litters, they all share a part of the name.
The hoards of this litter all start with "citric cuteness", for example

If your hoard(s) is/are common or fairly easy-to-get pets, does it ever get to a point when all you feel like you ever do is trade for your hoard?

Since I only have so small hoards, it doesn't take that long to complete pets which are so common. So no, doesn't feel like it. Yet.

If your hoard(s) is/are rare or hard-to-get pets, do you find yourself running out of trade fodder easily?

Rather "not having the exact trade fodder". I do have enough, but, well...
They want either list pets or 2008 pets that I surely would never trade for a 2012 rare... at least not 1:1.

Then again, I don't have that much rare hoards and most of them started out as uncommon anyway.

If I started a hoard, I most likely would hoard something uncommon or rare, not terribly easy to find, because I'd feel more accomplished having ten of a pet I really had to work for rather than a thousand that were perhaps so easy to find that people are practically dumping their extras on me.

And, just a little, hm, advice: don't hoard because of the rarity.
If you hoard a certain pet, because it is rare, you might not like and trade it away in the end. You do have to like the pet/design itself. ^^;
I've seen many people who started to hoard popular newborns, because they thought they'll become awesomesaucesmashing or rare and ended up being disappointed

I decided to do it on my own really. I mean, I had seen other people's hoards and thought it would be cool to have one or more of my own but I didn't start hoarding until I found a pet I really liked and made the choice to hoard it.

Sometimes it's on impulse sometimes it's on accident. Take my Breaking Dawn (no reference to Twilight, it just suited the pets) hoard for example. I'd missed a cocoon outcome and found myself suddenly with a ton of the orange butterfly wolves when they were fully grown. I chose to have a limited hoard of those because I liked the design and I already had the start of a hoard going anyway. I have never counted but I believe half (or almost half anyway) of those butterflies were gifts. >.>

On the other hand, my White February and Light Brown Spotted V-day '09 2nd Gen hoards were started because I adore the pets and I wanted to collect as many of them as I could.

Yes and no. For me it kind of goes in phases. I have a Common/Uncommon hoard and a lot of people will offer those pets in trades so I do see a lot of trades for them. However, I do not always accept the trades (most often because they've used a Common or Uncommon hoard pet to get into my wishlist locked groups). If I ever find that I'm feeling overwhelmed with Common/Uncommon hoard trades I simply remove them from my wishlist for a time to give myself a break and add them back on later so I can continue my hoard.

Always. But it's fairly easy to do offsite trades to get more rare fodder (or the funds for more rare fodder) as well so I don't usually feel like I'm totally out of options to track down and obtain my hoard pets.


And adding on to what Raire said, don't hoard just to feel accomplished or because a pet is rare. Hoard it because you really, truly like the design and want to have as many of that pet as you can get. I feel just as accomplished looking at my Common/Uncommon hoard of 100 as I do looking at my Rare or Very Rare hoards of 30 or 40. I feel that because I still worked hard to earn those 100 Commons/Uncommons.

i just finished my "I Still Love You" hoard leaving me with 5 active hoards and 4 never ending hoards

but i have a bad feeling when these new sec gen babies grow up i may have a new hoard on my hands, i have 11 of them so far, the worst part is i'm still missing one of the litter edit i finally got it
