Yes, when I joined. I didn't know anybody so I had to start off with ONLY very common pets and I got my first higher than un-common pet (It was rare) after a long time. Then on the other hand, people are getting VERY RARES pets for free after they just joined. Unfair?

Not if they have friends in high places. I know plenty of people who give out pets like that to newbies to get them started. I wasn't one of them. I got where I am on my own, and you can see how well I'm doing just by glancing at my pets.

It's only now that I'm getting gifts from good friends.

Same here, mostly. Though I did get a lot of gifts of Uncommon wishies when I first put up my (handmade) wishlist. That was from complete strangers too. ^^

I could see how it can be annoying or off-putting if you're in an auction all by yourself and another person has seemingly unbeatable offers because of other people popping in. It's happened to me before, but I always figured some of that was Dreampet Army type people - I think those groups do that kind of thing? I never bothered asking for help in one of those threads so I just go it alone mostly. XD (But I'm pretty sure anyone can get help if they ask, go check out the Clubs and Armies section. ^^)

It's just one of those facets of CS life. Some people have advantages. Heck, I don't get any of the benefits of having family members who play, and I probably never will.

Alright, I just recently put up an auction for my Green and Red Androids and I specifically say in the first post that I'm looking for Mausoleum Neko Dogs. So naturally when somebody offers this I get a little bit ticked.

This is the first sentence in my first post:

I just recently got an extra Green Android dog and Red Android dog so I'm auctioning them off for MAUSOLEUM NEKO DOGS.

This is the offer that really bothered me and how I responded:

Offer not accepted. I wish you guys would take the time to read my first post. It specifically says that I will only accept MAUSOLEUM NEKO DOGS for these androids.

Then there's the fact that the title of my thread is Green and Red Android Single-Breed Quantity Auction. You'd think that would say "Hey, DharSii is only accepting a specific breed for these" *sigh*

That's how it goes - I also started with nothing and I have built up my collection entirely by myself - I don't have friends on here that would give me rare pets. Wish I did.
A few lovely people helped me out with some uncommons on my wishlist, when I was new, and I'll always be grateful.
The rares that you see in auctions seem to be trapped in an ever circling trade - they change hands quite frequently as far as I can tell. Like many others, I'm always outbid at auctions - especially when people group together to bid, and I've come to accept it as a fact of the site. It's lovely that people help each other out like that, even if sometimes I wonder why I bother trying, lol.
I just take the view that there will always be another auction, and in the meantime I'm working on building up my trading fodder, and maybe one day I'll get lucky.

The only thing that really bothers me about auctions. . . I've hosted them for my friend, who isn't good with auctions and who doesn't have enough time to manage them on her own. So I do it for her, logically, so she can have some help. I specifically say that commons and very commons can't be bid. I told someone I wouldn't add the very common they'd added to their bid because I said in the rules not to bid them. Their bid wasn't going to win anyway, so I just ignored them while I worked out a deal with my two top bidders. Ugh. Hate those people.
