I'm really disappointed by the number of rares from the lost city event. A few years ago at least the majority of event pets were rare.

Also, are the rarity updates automated?

Yes. They're automatic. Nobody goes around every pet and changes it's rarity. They're calculated by a formula

There are a lot more players these days - also people always get more than one of a popular design, making them less rare. Perhaps a strategy for future events would be to stock up on the less popular pets?

Maybe, but if everyone stocks up on the less popular pets wouldn't that make them more popular? Thus making them worth less.

Seems like once per month is the norm now :)

This usually happens after december 18th, which is when old pets are rereleased. When there are more old pets held by active users, the rarities drop :o

Those are all great suggestions!
I would definitely like to use images, but too many can clutter a thread. Were you thinking of using separate posts for each rarity update? :o

I was thinking one post could be updated in the months Jan-July, then another post Aug-Dec by year, so for one post we could have 2017 Jan-July's rarity changes that happened.

well... i ask to Nadine but she not reply yet (but message was already read few hours ago) so I'm not sure what to do... but I would like to make whole new thread (to start again) and I have really prepared system for it ... I won't give all into just one post (like all new rares, etc) ... it would be so much big and it could be confusing... I like sorting and updating etc... so I'm sure that it will have good system ^-^ (I hope) xD
Do you think that I can make new thread? Cause old one wasnt update from 2012 and also need to be changed a lot... I'm really prepared for it... just need to be sure if I can do it... cause I not want to get that thread immediately lock

I'll leave the remaking of the thread up to Law because I'll admit I'm very unorganized when it comes to thread making :,) But I can definitely help with making those reserved posts and make a layout template so it's easier to update the thread!
