I said this about the rats awhile back, but, whether a pet is in demand or not, I think there should be a point that an extremely rare pet like that spider shouldn't be able to fall below, just because of its rarity alone. I certainly think the advents list is too low for it and that having it where it's at only convinces people that it's really not worth anything and that they can pay even less for it, just because it's demand isn't high. x.x

I would like to bring rat discussion back up, if it's okay. There was never a definite answer, but I agree with Elijah about the whole rarity factor. Maybe moving the rats/spider up because of their rarity could jolt people back to reality. It could show them that these things really are pretty rare.
The thing is, if you keep it realistic and look on the market, for example no one will trade you a UR lion for the UR rat, or any UR dog, or BW etc., because most people will go, yeah it's just the UR rat, I rather have the UR cat than it or similar things. It's kind of the same with the zebras, they are really few around, but they go for much less they are in truth worth because people just prefer a shiny sunjewel instead of a fancy zebra.
Most people just don't like rats and spiders, and prefer the dogs over them. :C
Even if the rats and spiders are moved up, I doubt the economy will much change about those species.
I actually personally think that it's because they're so low and treated like they're worth so little that people don't want them and won't pay much for them. Think of it like the BA or Joker only opposite. The farther they get moved up, the higher prices people will consider "fair" for them because of the "demand". We don't move them up any higher now because there's only so high demand can move something up. After a certain point, it gets excessive. It works, or should work, in the opposite way, too. When there's things like rats, that get so undervalued on this site and you don't see many of them that make the list, even though their rarity says they should, then someone sees them as a species that isn't worth very much. Or when something like a rat from July, which is in truth more rare than a -lot- of the pets on the actual list, is only placed on the Septembers list. People see that as a reason for paying even less for them. You can't imagine how many times I've heard people say "But the demand for the rat is less than _____ that's on the same line." That's why the rat is there but people don't seem to understand that, they seem to think that "bad demand" can allow them to pay even less, which shouldn't be true.
What I'm saying is, if there's a point that demand can be stopped from pushing a pet too high, despite what people say, then the same should be true for demand pushing a pet too low. Honestly, the way I think this thread should be made is that everything should be placed where their rarity puts them and then we move things up because of demand. The reason I say this is because, in all reality, if there is no demand for something, it still has it's full rarity and shouldn't move below where that rarity puts it. I don't actually understand how demand can move something -down- from where it's rarity would put it. Sure, demand can move something up and above it but rarity is a set factor that pretty much only changes from time to time. And the way things work on CS, if things are placed like their rarity puts them, then no rarity changes would ever move something, except for maybe a few, because if one thing changes rarity, the one above it should've already changed. Of course, I know demand moves stuff around but, like I said, that should only allow pets to be moved up, not down.
Rarity has it's own impact on the value of a pet and it's a more constant one and should be what draws the line on how far something can fall because of "demand". Because, like I stated earlier, without demand, the pet still has all of its rarity factoring into its demand. And you can't say that rats have absolutely no demand. There -are- people that like rats and want them, etc. The point you made about UR's actually made me laugh. I know that I, for one, would want the UR Rat before -any- of the UR's that are placed all the way up at the top. It's my second favorite UR pet, only beaten by the UR Malk. And I know buttloads of other people who would prefer to have the UR Rat over the UR Cat or BW, etc. Rats -really- aren't as unwanted as so many people make them appear to be and neither are spiders. Everything has the people that want them and everything has the people that don't want them. Sure, dogs may have more people that want them than rats and spiders but that doesn't mean that rats and spiders have no demand.
I hope I made at least some sense here. e.e
