That’s actually what Tess said they were. Tess herself said they’re semi customs and not part of a regular collection because of how they’re purchased with real money and how they’re not rereleased.
Just to point that out that it’s not just a few random users that decided to view them as that. ^^

I should have clarified lol I know what Tess said but my own view on store pets is that they are still a part of what I would consider a "full collection" despite their being classified as semi customs by Tess. To me since they still have a rarity tag like any other pet and not the "custom" tag I would still like them to be considered on the same list as other pets but thats not really up to me to decide, we'll just have to see how the poll goes!

I honestly feel like creating a separate list for store pets might elevate their already hard to special status even more, but I understand why people think a separate list would be appropriate ^^

Yeah, that's how I feel about it too, but people can agree to disagree <3 I do agree putting them on a seperate list kind of puts them on a pedestal.

I believe that store pets should have their own list with themselves. The main thing with storepets is that they will continue to grow in rarity and become worth the most in the game by far. I do not believe that they should be considered in the rarity trading guide as they are not only "semi customs" like P A N D A said, but also will inevitably take up most of the list by the time another 5-10 years pass, as the list will become swarmed with them.

Instead, they should be tracked on a separate list with showing when they changed rarity and how much they changed in rarity from when they came out so users can see what ones are rarer than the rest so they can do their trading.

This is something I hadn’t thought about and it’s an interesting take on it. Of course this is thinking way far into the future and I hope by that time this list will have been kept up to date enough that if store pets even get included there could be another poll to remove them at this theoretical point lol.

Still an interesting view and reasoning that I think should be thought of by any reading/participating.

Anyone can create whatever they like, there are no rules against people having a difference of opinion and voicing it.
This project, or what I've been working on, has been going on for a lot longer than when the Rares List started to go downhill.
The Rarity Counter Project has been going on for a few years? now.

Besides, this is rarity based only, the Rares List isn't. So it's not the same, or a replacement.

I understand people can create whatever they like. My point is by putting a rare pet above another rare pet puts something in people's minds of this pet is valued less even though people have that same pet equally this a rare from 09 can now be arguable as equaling value of a current rare or a new rare worth the same as a rare that was rare from the get go. It's an opinion I just feel like maybe just maybe waiting until the vote is done because who knows maybe the new list if restructured could take this route.

I'm not attacking you I just have an opinion of perhaps people can just do free Lance trading and not have another new list that is once again treated like it's the law of the land that is all I'm saying. Yes you are free to do whatever but in turn you are subjecting yourself to other people's opinion.

This thread isn't going to wait for the Rares List to do anything, it's not linked to it in any way other than both deal with rare pets.
And if something turned very rare 9 months before another, it would be more rare than the later, wouldn't it?
While I see what you're putting forth it's, dare I say, unfair to tell someone that something that changed rarity a long time before another is a fair swap.

I would love free lance trading, trust me. I voted to retire the Rares List. But this list focuses on when pets changed in rarity and compares them to others based on the same data. It's natural some pets would be rarer than other of the same year. A good example would be the St Patty's Tess Dragon and the 2009 St Patty's Dog, both of which have been very rare since they received their rarities. They would no doubt be rarer than a pet of the same month that turned very rare later down the road.

I'm not subjecting anyone to my opinion, I am merely collecting public data, putting it into one neat post and showing it to other people. This isn't opinion based, it's fact-based. And as a person of science factual evidence without bias is the most important thing.

When it comes time I'll make another thread and we can have 3-4 volunteers run the thread so we can keep it community run! ^^ This is all just draft and planning.

Re: "The" Rarity Trade Guide // **UR/STORE PET POLL**

Postby Solloby » Sun Feb 24, 2019 11:36 am

Sorry I haven't been participating in this thread, I just noticed the poll though and thought I should let you guys know that I made a Store Pet Guide that hasn't been posted yet. If you want a sneak peek at it's current draft, you can preview this but please don't post it anywhere. I've offered it to another user who has already agreed to take on a forum search guide I sent them, so I am waiting to hear back whether they want this one as well.

If you feel like this guide should be a post in your overall project though, you are welcome to absorb it into your guide if you think it will fit. It lists store pets from oldest to newest, but it also includes important information about trading store pets and the history of specific store pets, to help users value them accurately.

Code: Select all
    CS Store Pet Guide
Store pets can be purchased with Chicken Dollars (C$), this website's virtual currency.
C$ can be purchased with real money, or through trading with other players.

Store pets are released once every two months. Once a store pet is retired, it is never put up for sale again, but you can trade them with other players if you want an older/retired store pet. Most store pets become Rare or Very Rare once they gain their rarity tags. The oldest of store pets are now OMGSR.
The following information should be kept in mind when trading retired store pets.
You should pay attention to the store pet's age (year of release) and rarity tag, but also...

Older store pets are usually considered more valuable because they are usually rarer

More popular store pets were bought more, so there are more around meaning they are lower rarity

Less popular store pets were bought less, so there are less around meaning they are higher rarity

Some pets could only be purchased as part of a full set, so they have a higher rarity than their littermates

Store pets are usually Rare or Very Rare. The oldest retired store pets are now OMGSR.

Store pets are never rereleased, so they increase in rarity compared to normal pets but only once per year.

Store pets usually cost 20C$ when released, but are worth more once they are retired.

Store Pet Historical Information
Skelebun & Orange Cerberus were the first Store Pets. They were more expensive than other store pets, and only available from Oct - Nov 2009. This makes them the most rare and valuable of store pets. Orange Cerberus was more expensive but more well liked, so more were purchased compared to Skelebun. This means Skelebun is the rarest of all store pets and this was why it was first to go OMGSR.

Drink Me & Eat Me were also released in Oct 2009, but were available until Feb 2010 so their rarity is lower. Drink Me was more popular than Eat Me so more were bought which is why it has a lower rarity tag. This is the same for Green Liontail and Raven Dog. They have higher demand but also higher supply. More people like them, but there are more around.

Winged Green Android was the first store pet that could not be purchased individually, only as part of a set. This means this outcome is rarer than its littermates because less would have been bought. This will be the same for all store pets that are set exclusives (only available when you buy the full set). Even today there are store pets released this way.
Re: "The" Rarity Trade Guide // **UR/STORE PET POLL**

Postby Maligator » Sun Feb 24, 2019 12:29 pm

I think I am putting in my vote for adding URs and not store pets. I am not an expert, so please, take what I say with a grain of salt, and feel free to correct me and help me understand if I am wrong in my reasoning! I am always willing to learn more about the CS rarity system and the way things are~

My reasoning would be that there will always be a steady flow of re released UR pets every year, which makes their rarity stay in the same ball park mostly(at least in my knowledge), but store pets will always be growing in value every year because there is no release. Due to this, the store pets are kind of in a league of their own, which means that giving them a set place on a rarity list including other pets like URs or 08 July pets and whatnot will give them kind of an unfair advantage and placement on the rarity list will have to be changed a bit more frequently in order to be more accurate.
Another thing would be that since the store pets are considered semi custom, it should be optional for people to count them in their collections. It might make it a bit confusing to have them grouped with pets that are required for a full collection, and give the wrong idea to people who are working towards a full collection but do not fully understand the semi custom part. A disclaimer for that would be good and would probably work as well, but if store pets are semi custom and never re released, doesn’t that put them in a ballpark of their own? Meaning maybe there should be a separate list for store pets on the side? There may be many issues with creating a store pet list as well, but there might be problems with adding them to the list as well.

Again, please let me know if my explanations seem unreasonable. I am kind of just recently really figuring everything out, so I am certainly not the most experienced.

Re: "The" Rarity Trade Guide // **UR/STORE PET POLL**

Postby Santa Sue » Sun Feb 24, 2019 1:55 pm

Just wanted to throw my 2 cents in...

I have always thought that Store pets should have their own rarity tag, especially since it has been stated by Tess that they are custom and not part of the regular collection. But I also think this because of the fact that they are not FREE pets, you have to buy them with C$, which, even if you yourself didn't buy that C$ with real money, SOMEONE did! At some point that C$ you collected from trading was purchased with real money, and real money to me is worth a lot more than a free pet! Also because they are NOT re-released during Advent, meaning that their numbers will never increase, what's out there is all there is and the older they get, the more rare they become as users become inactive meaning their numbers are dwindling as far as what's available for trade.

I honestly have never traded my store pets for what the 'what is this pet worth' thread has suggested, I will never trade a new store pet for only a 2010 rare, if people don't want to trade me something more valuable now, then I will just hold on to them until they are older and then people will shell out a bit more for it because the older they get, the harder they are to come by! Sorry if that seems like I'm greedy, but I am one of those that actually does use her own hard earned money to buy C$ with so I can purchase the Store pets for my own collection and a set for future trading with and I won't trade something I spent my hard earned money on away lightly! Whether it's a dollar or a hundred dollars, money is money! XD

However, I'm not certain their own separate list would be much good, because a lot of people will want to trade them for non store pets, so we would need to know where they stand amongst the regular pets, and I'm not sure how that would happen with their own list. I do still think they should have their own rarity tag though, to help place them maybe, but also to help with trading, as not a lot of people recognize store pets as store pets, especially newer players. I had to finally move all my store pets to a separate trade folder at one point due to too many people offering on them as though they were a regular pet from that month/year, even with a VR tag, I would get offers of only 2-3 2018 rares for my 2018 VR store pet!

Anyway, that's just my thoughts on that topic!

I agree with you for the most part, the only thing I would not really agree with is the fact that they should get their own rarity tag and not their own list, because with the new rarity tag, how would their rarity tag compare to the Omgsr tag or the Very rares tag, and how would it be decided on how to trade pets with those rarities for a store pet? Also, we can’t really group such a large spectrum of pets into one rarity without having some way to see which are more rare than others other than just the date they were released.
Maybe if there is the be a store pet list, include suggestions on how they can be valued in terms of other pets? That could get shaky as well though, kind of like the gaps list, but that’s really just my opinion.
Also, the rarity tags can’t be changed by users alone, and currently the only thing we have is user based knowledge and efforts to make stuff easier to understand. A new rarity tag would have to be approved and implemented by Tess ;w;
