3 month rule. Since you're a bit new to it as you said in your post, in other words any uncommon pet not in a high demand within 3 months is fair.

I get that but what would that equal in anything other than rares and what if all someone has is from '12 and '11. These are the kinds of request I've been getting. Of course they aren't offering these pets but they're the only ones they have

For that, it would depend on exactly the pets involved, and would vary from trade to trade. I know in quantity auctions, lower in demand late '09 rares had been going from 40 to 60 '12/'11 pets.
