Heartsong[f] and Victor[m]
"But I don't want to go!"
"You must, daughter."
"I don't want to go live in some old crumbling tower!" said Heartsong.
"If you had obeyed me, daughter, then you wouldn't have to go," said Heartsong's father.
Heartsong pouted. She hadn't been doing anything bad. All she had done was sneak out of the castle. She had just wanted to see what it was like out there. Her father had always kept her in the castle. When he found out what she had been doing he was really upset. That was the reason why she was being sent to live in some secluded tower.
"Some time alone might do you good, daughter," he continued, "Hopefully you will learn your lesson."
-----------------------------------------------
Heartsong and the king arrived at the tower. It was tall and narrow, with one window at the top and one door at the bottom. The king dragged Heartsong up the tower stairs. He shut her in the room at the top and locked the door.
Heartsong looked out the window, depressed.
"And," said her father, "To make sure you can't get out..." He whistled a large green dragon-wolf flew over the treetops and landed next to the king.
"Here, Sire," said the dragon-wolf. The king gave the keys to the dragon-wolf.
"Make sure she doesn't get out," said the king. Then he left.
By flapping his only wings slightly, the dragon-wolf had his face level with Heartsong's window.
"Good day, princess," he said with a smile. Heartsong didn't answer.
"I am Victor," he said. Heartsong glared at him with narrowed eyes.
"I am deeply sorry that you have to be locked up in this tower," said Victor, "I wouldn't participate in locking a young lady in a tower, if it wasn't for..." He broke off, fingering the scar across his eye. Suddenly Heartsong decided to break the vow of silence she had taken.
"Wasn't for what?" she demanded. Victor swallowed and bit his lip, but said nothing.
"I think it might be against the law of the land not to answer a princess," said Heartsong. Victor swallowed again.
"Well, let's just say that I'm being pardoned for something by taking this job."
"What?"
"Well, I..." Victor swallowed a third time, and ran his hand over his scar again, "I got in trouble for... well, I had a really bad temper and got in some bad fights. It's not something I'm proud of."
"Oh."

One month later:
Heartsong couldn't stand it any longer. She had spent the past two weeks knitting a rope from her yarn. Finally it was done, and it was night. As she raced to the window to tie it to the edge, Heartsong tripped and fell out the window. Victor, who had been asleep heard her shreak, woke up and caught her. He gently placed her back in the room.

Eight months later:
“Heartsong?”
“What, Victor?”
“Um…I don‘t know exactly how to say this, but…” He took a large breath, “I love you, Heartsong!” He shut his eyes tight, not sure what to expect. After all, how could she, a gorgeous princess, love him, a scarred, ugly dragon-wolf?
“Why Victor!” she said.
“Yeah, I know,” Victor muttered, “Never mind.”
“That not what I meant, silly! I love you, too!”
“Really?”
“Of course!”
Yeah, pretty long. The melon dog could totally be their pup...except I don't have one. D:
