Storytime. C:
"Sassa! Sass! SASSAFRASS!" called the small rodent hurrying after the wolf. Now that she was full-grown, Sprotz was having a hard time keeping up with her.
"Mmm?" murmured the dreamy Sassa, finally hearing the rat, her childhood friend.
Sprotz sat on his hind legs and gazed at her. He mentally nipped himself for being so smitten with her...he was a rat, she was a wolf. She would never like him like he liked her.
"Would you like to, well, go for a walk?" he suggested eagerly, whiskers twitching.
"Oh, I would..." Sassafrass said. "But...Flash is coming to go for a walk with me." She looked down, a look of giddy pleasure on her face.
Sprotz slumped slightly, mentally and physically. Flash. Her pack's so-called "bad boy." Sassafrass liked him. But Sprotz didn't it. He told himself that that had nothing to do with the fact that Sassafrass liked him. It was a bit of a lie, but Sprotz wouldn't have liked Flash anyway...he thought.
"Some other time, okay?" said Sass, a gentle smile on her muzzle. A twig broke behind her. Out of the woods came Flash, a smooth look on his face.
"Okay," muttered Sprotz, even as Sassafrass turned away.
"Sassafrass...!" said Flash, in the coolest was possible. Not too excited, not too uninterested. Sprotz mentally glowered; he couldn't say things like that naturally.
"Ready to go?" asked Flash, quietly padding towards Sassafrass. Flash didn't cast one look at Sprotz. Few wolves paid any attention to the rats at all. Sassa went with him, looking like she was on Cloud 9. She didn't look back.

|That Night|
Sassafrass returned from her walk, beyond happy. Why shouldn't she be? She was getting along fabulously with one of the most popular wolves who could be her future-mate!
But despite her happiness, she had the recurring dream she'd been having since she was young that night.
It was dark, and Sassafrass was alone. Lightning split the sky and the wind howled around her. The rain began to pound down on her head, and thunder rolled loudly, so loudly, along with more lightning. Sassafrass was afraid, so afraid. There was someone there, someone after her. Glowing eyes emerged from her right, coming towards her. Panicked, she bolted, running through the storm until she collapsed from exhaustion
Then came the only good part of the dream.
A soft voice that was familiar, so familiar, yet she didn't know who it belonged to. It said: "Don't worry. I'm here."And she was sa--
Loud thunder woke Sassafrass from her dream. Lightning split the sky and the wind howled around her. The rain began to pound down on her head, and thunder rolled loudly, so loudly, along with more lightning. It was exactly like her dream, but real. She jerked her head about. Where were the eyes? Was that them? Sassafrass didn't know, but she bolted despite it. She ran and ran, and finally collapsed. Her breathing was loud in the lull of the storm.
Sprotz woke to the sound of someone crashing through the nearby bushes. What? he wondered. Scurrying out into the wetness, he saw Sassafrass lying on the ground, trembling and breathing heavily. He hurried towards her.
Sassfrass heard someone coming towards her.
"Don't worry. I'm here," said the voice.
"Sp-Sprotz?" said Sassafrass, realizing who's voice it had been in her dream all those years.
"It's all right," he said, lying beside her.
