Thanks Grr and Crestalia, I've made sure to include that. ^^ Here's the rough draft so far. Thoughts, opinions, suggestions?
Getting Started
I want to help! How do I get started?
Great! The front post will be updated with the project we are currently working on. We keep an updated list of available pet ID ranges to count in the thread, so go ahead and check the last page or two to see what ranges are available for you to count. If no one else has claimed the range you would like to count, go ahead and post that you will be taking xxxx-xxxxx range.
Go ahead and download this project's template document here: [Link to template]
What do I do now?
Fill in the ID numbers with the range you are assigned. If you don't know how to automatically fill in the ID numbers, follow the instructions in the next section. Fill in what pet belongs to each ID number. The litter column will fill in automatically. There are examples in your template document. Important: Please take a look at the examples and make sure that you are using the correct spelling for each pet. If you're still unsure, take a look at a completed ID count that someone has posted to make sure you're filling everything out correctly.
How do I fill in the pet ID numbers more quickly?
Start typing the first few ID numbers in your set. Highlight those numbers. Click the white triangle in the bottom right corner of the boxes and drag it down to the bottom of where your column ends. If you still need help you can consult Microsoft's tutorial here: Link
What are the addons to move from one pet to the next more quickly?
Firefox: "FastPrevNext"
Chrome: "URL Next", "Next Page"
I've finished filling out my pet count, how do I share it?
When you're done, you can upload the finished Excel doc to whatever document sharing site you prefer. Most sites will have a shareable link for your document that you can copy and paste here. Google Docs/Drive, Dropbox, and OneDrive are all good options if you're not sure what to use. Due to CS's privacy rules we do ask that you use a throwaway account on these file sharing sites with a "junk" email that you do not use for your personal/daily life.
FAQ
How do I get a shareable link on Googles Docs/Drive?
Open the file in Google Docs (or Google Drive). Click "File" on the top menu bar, then "Share" from the dropdown menu (it should be the first option). A pop-up window should appear. Click "Get Shareable Link" in the upper right hand corner of the pop-up. Make sure the text above the link says "Anyone with the link can view". There's a little triangle with a drop-down menu to change this option if it says anything else. "Link sharing on" should also be written above "Anyone with the link can view." The link given in the text box should be the correct one.
What do we do if the pet ID is a pet adopted off account?
At the moment, off-account adopts are being counted. Whether a pet is on or off account doesn't really matter since the same rarity rules apply.
I got an error message that a pet doesn't exist/couldn't be found. What does that mean?
This means that the pet was deleted. Write in "deleted" as the pet.
What do we do if a pet is deleted?
Write deleted.
If we find pets that are not on the list being counted (paw print rats, 08 butterfly wolves, sec gens, etc.) do you input it as "other pet"? What if it's Very Rare or a list pet?
Yes, we are only counting specific pets from each month. This is because we are focusing on pets that we do not have a lot of existing rarity data on.
