Santos & HehnaToday they brought her home. To my home. They are giving her all the attention. Suddenly they ignore me. I was always loyal and kind to them. Why have I deserved that?
Like every day during the workdays, Santos slept happily on his very own place in the house, the wooden bench of the tiled stove. His family hat put on the settle a very comfy, blue pillow where he could relax, without disrupting his family while they where doing human things. The place was just perfect for him, he could observe nearly the whole house from his place in silence, and in winter it was warm there, and in the summer cold.
As his inner watch told the large Rottweiler to wake up, he rolled one time around, and emitted then a loud yawn. Still a bit dozy, Santos looked at the large wooden clock that hung at the yellow painted kitchen wall.
17:47Usually the humans where home around 5 o'clock, why not today? Did he not notice them entering the house? Did something happen to them? Santos perked worried his floppy ears up, but no movement, no talking from the two kids, or the two adults could be heard. Just him, alone in the house.
The male canine had no problem to be alone during the week. Even when he was a dirty little monster when the family took him from the pound, he learned over the time how to behave and to be a good dog, like his family wanted. He knew his family did not like it when he howled when he was alone, and they showed him that they would come back regularly at the same time during the workdays. That gave him inner strength to "survive" the loneliness for the many hours being alone. Also the humans made sure that he did not feel bored when being alone. They gave him many toys to play with, and there was even a doggie door just for him in the kitchen, that he could go alone during the day out of the house. The garden was big and beautiful, many trees, bushes and flowers grew there; even a dog kennel was there out of simple wood. He had to sleep there often when he was young and unruly, or did something that his owners did not appreciate, but now it was rarely used by him, to his relief.
Then the own growling of his stomach reminded Santos that it was time for his food. More than a half hour ago. He jumped from the bank and walked slowly in the kitchen, to his eating place. But to his dismay only the water bowl was filled. The humans forgot in their morning hurry again to fill his bowl with dry food. Frustrated Santos threw his head back and howled loudly. He did not care that the human did not like that he howled. He was hungry, and wanted food now.
After several howls, and no response whatsoever from anything, he yelped and walked slowly into the living room.
Then he heard a familiar sound, a loud rolling on cement. The car of his family!
Exited and happy he dashed from the living room to the anteroom, where the front door was located. Already knowing what to do, he sat himself on the lowest stair that led to the first floor, like he learned. He knew what was of him expected and what a good dog should do in the eyes of his family.
He perked his ears interested as he heard the car doors slam shut, and the family giggling and talking happily. They where clearly happy, maybe they brought him even a nice treat from the local butcher? Santos hackled merrily and let his tongue roll out of his mouth.
Then the white front door slowly opened, and Santos could not hold it any longer. He needed to be by his family! He jumped from his seat and ran to the door, wanted to greet everybody and show his family how much he loved them. The first person he saw was Father of the two children, and he reared up to stand on his hind legs and leaned overly happy into the belly of his beloved owner, and his bobtail swung exited from the left to the right.
But the next moment the father grabbed him by the collar, and yanked him rudely back. Santos yelped confused as he was led to the stairs again, and with a sharp "Sit and stay!" he was commanded from his owner to be quiet. Santos was hurt and confused, but did as his owner wanted and sat on the stairs quietly.
"He probably already smelled her and needs to get used to her first." his owner said with a bit of a smirk, while holding Santos still firmly down on the stairs.
"Her?" Santos thought confused. But then realized, as he smelled
her.
The mother, led another dog in the house. In
his house. In the house that he swore to protect by his life, like his loving owners. Why would they do that?
Santos had no problem with other dogs, at all. He went often with his owners to the dog park, and played there happily with the other dogs, big and small, fat and skinny, short hair, naked or long hair. He did not care, he just loved to play with the others.
Even the neighbours brought sometimes their dogs over, that they could play with him in the garden of his family, there was never a quarrel or something similar.
Heck, he did not even mind cats or other animals, he did not chase them, or bark at them. He liked everyone, unless they hurt him or his family.
His family knew that, but why did they do that to him? Why did they threat him like he did something wrong? He did just greet them!
But today was
different. Everything was
different. There was no owner of the second dog in sight. They treated him differently, like he did something wrong. He had not brought another dog into the house,
they had.The other dog was led further into the house, a Gordon Setter Spaniel female. As she passed Santos, he lost it. He bared his fanged mouth and started to growl and loudly bark at her. The female yelped loudly and hid behind the legs of the wife. Santos did not care, he did not hate any animal on the world, until now. He hated her. From the first moment. He wanted her to be gone, he wanted her stench to be gone out of his nose. He wanted her dead.
Santos was yanked again by the collar, but he did not care, he leaned with his big muscular body forward, to fight against his owner.
"Santos ! Be quiet!" His owner said loudly to him, but Santos did not listen.
"Camilla, bring her into the kitchen! I get the leash and lead him in the garden, he needs to cool down a bit!" his owner said to his wife, and she led the female into
his kitchen. To
his bowls, to
his pillow.
The two children followed suit the mother, and the father grabbed the brown leash and attached it to Santos collar while he still barked at the new dog.
"Come one Santos , you get now a time out!" his owner said and yanked again hardly on the leash. Santos yelped, and was pulled by his owner out of the front door, against his will.
He needed to be in the house, who will protect his family if he can not be in the house? They leave the children to the female dog! He needed to protect them!
Santos barked loudly as he was pulled to the garden, until they reached the kennel. Santos suddenly realized what was going to happen, and grew quiet. What did he do? He just wanted to protect his family from that unknown dog!
Against his will, the leash was firmly tied to the dog house, and his owner walked away a few steps from him.
"Buddy, Santos . You know you are my best friend. You stay here until Hehna gets used to everything, the kids, the house, Camilla, just everything."
"Hehna! Is that her damned name?" Santos growled.
"It was not my decision to bring her home, I am just sorry and understand that you are upset. I bring you food and water in a few minutes. It should also not rain the next days, so you will be fine. The garden is pretty. Maybe you both can be sooner or later friends?" his owner tried to reassure him and calm down. Then he turned around and walked back into the house, leaving Santos alone.
"Why did they do that to me? I was always a good dog, tried to do everything they wanted. I am a bad dog?" Santos asked himself and flopped down on his belly, and whimpered.
