Is there any consensus of what the gap between different years store pets is, in terms of pets, not c$? specifically between 2015 and 2016 but also wondering about any general rules.

I guess my next question would be whats the difference between, say, a mid 09 rare and an early 09 rare? would it be like a new rare (e.g. 2020 rare), or a 2011 uncommon, or is that undecided? the gap between 2016 and 2017 seems to be a couple months but between 2016-2015 seem to be almost double? but between early to mid, how big is the difference especially considering we usually go by the three month rule, which would make like feb (Early) and may/june (early-mid) the same?

The short answer would be that there isn't a hard set rule for differences between two rares because there are so many variables which may affect the values of the pets [i.e., date of release, subjective demand, etc.]. If the three month rule applies blindly to two pets of the same rarity - then you're right, there is an overlap between an early-mid-late release pet! That being said, the description given for the value of a store pet - such as a 2018 store pet being worth a late '09 rare - seems to assume you would be trading the store pet for a single pet of that exact value. When bulk and other factors come into play, the values are less clear from a hypothetical stance [it would likely be easier to suggest fairness or unfairness when seeing an actual trade]. ^^

Going more in depth:
The difference between an early-mid-late '## rare would likely fall within ~4 month ranges (splitting 12 months into thirds), though I don't believe there is a strict rule anywhere for this. If you were to go by thirds:
An Early '## Rare = January - February - March - April
A Mid '## Rare = May - June - July - August
A Late '## Rare = September - October - November - December
Technically the gap between any combination of years is consistent - but what the conversions look like between years is entirely dependent on whether or not a user utilizes rarity math (and if they do, what conversion values they utilize). If a user follows the 2:1 rule in trading between two pets of the same rarity from different years, then 1 2015 rare would be worth 2 2016 rares / 1 2016 rare would be worth 2 2017 rares. Again, this depends on the user though since not all users follow rarity math.

The three month rule definitely blurs the line between early-mid-late release pets, but I do think what a user constitutes as too late in the year to be early or mid-year would be subjective. Even if April is in the first four months of the year, one user may consider it closer to a mid-year value, while another fully accepts it as an early year.
I realize I'm rambling a bit in my response, but I think the most important thing in working out trades is communicating your own value preferences to your trading partner and finding out where those values align or don't align. A lot of trading beyond strict rarity values tends to be subjective in terms of demand, pet preferences (design, species, artist...), etc. so communication is a big part of trading. If you ever do have specific questions though - about a specific store pet in comparison to another store pet, or you have a trade you want to get opinions on the fairness of, I would recommend posting again here or on the Fair Trades Thread c:

While 2014 store pets and older are more subjective in their values due to demand and date of release - a 2013 store pet is generally cited as being worth a low advent or ~3-6 '09 rares x
All other pets listed are worth the three month rule, any added value on the part of demand would be up to trading users ^^
