someone tell me when to stop

the problem with the lists removal, and why it used to work but can't work anymore, is that there was never a list before. so pets didn't have specific higher value. cause there was no set value. the reason it can't work now is because there already has been a list. so everyone knows they are high value and are going to try to offer low valued pets for the high ones. like these trades i just got. would you, ever in your right mind, take any of these?

Values won't change overnight. It will be a GRADUAL process, and they won't become worthless either. Many people will continue using the list until there is a real rarity guide in place, but trading will be slightly more flexible than it was before; it won't be like a formula or a math equation.

I know why you're upset and I understand it...it's a terrible change for someone who has followed the list and devoted a lot of time to it (so have I). But I promise you the most valuable pets on this site won't become worthless overnight. I will still be referring to the rares list for example, but not as a formula sheet, rather just as a rough guide. And it will be more beneficial for everyone to just have a fact based rarity guide in place in the future, don't you think

That being said now people can come up with their OWN values. Yes trading can now be discuss the matter of value is literally on the pet we just had a rarity change meaning some pets have been worth that value for who knows how long meaning it would be fair to trade a vr for a vr though depending on age it would be equally fair to throw in another r/vr in for the date difference (if that makes sense).

Next up think of it this way how long does it take a rare to go vr? a while sometimes right? well now think of the time laps for a vr to go omgsr? That is the HIGHEST rarity in the game meaning the rarest of the rare pets.

Just take this ideology into account there is a HUGE difference between how many people own an omgsr compared to a vr.

Just some food for thought and no pets are not going to just lose their value they will go just to what they are actually worth. What is that you ask like I stated use facts talk to your partner and figure it out don't just try to get what you can out of a deal be fair in your trading .

Something that has worried me is that the idea of a pet not being present on the List = its worth is below the List, and by extension, nothing being on the List = all pets are worthless

This has been a problem in the past, not just now; a while back, there was talk about possibly separating the Joker (and other pets with outlying demand) from the Main List and instead putting it somewhere with a note like "it's worth something on the Main List" but people thought that meant the Joker would be worthless

And from people's comments now that the List is retired, I'm seeing similar comments that indicate people think this for all of the pets on the List and I'm just...

I want to say that I'm baffled, but I'm not. I've come to the very upsetting realizations that 1) people parse English holistically instead of analytically, and 2) the List has had that much of an impact on how people view pet values

It's difficult for me to imagine because I still remember trading in 2008 and 2009 and I'm also viscerally aware of how rare the 2008 pets, especially the July and August 2008 pets, actually are because I've been around for a while. I honestly hadn't imagined it at all before I saw people start talking in the way that they have.

I do feel it's necessary to point out that this ratio was posted in 2009. Since we've gotten two major rarity system overhauls between then and now, which both came with changes to these ratios, I'd avoid using the above numbers at all, as they are very outdated.

i think this is all getting so out of hand honestly. its confusing me (and others im sure.) it feels like, again, we are going in circles. talking about the same things over and over again and for what? how is it benefitting us? it seems like we are all just causing more trouble for ourselves really. thats my view on it anyhow. :(

Ugh I just realized I do this. To be fair though, it's what has been ingrained into us. According to the list 3-4 '09 rares = 1 bottom of the advent list, and it works its way up to absurd quantities... (like 500 non list rares for a main list, etc). So in comparison all non list pets are "worth" significantly less, whether it should be that way or not.

It's okay for this thread to go in circles for a bit, as it's main purpose right now is to give people a space to post their thoughts and questions without spamming the discussion regarding final changes to the main list thread.
Both the list thread and this one here will be locked in due time. It's allowed to stay open for now because staff recognize that the decision to discontinue the list has a big impact, and that the community needs a few days to get their thoughts out. But it doesn't really serve a bigger purpose beyond that. Users interested in other list projects are free to check them out and discuss them on their respective threads.
This one's just for us to discuss with each other what implications the decision may have for the future. So, naturally, it'll repeat some points, as different people voice their concerns or address those of others^^

But they aren't lists anymore but they also aren't valueless. It's all a matter of perspective and what the trading partner believes by creating a set value one is being close minded to other possibilities. No pet should be worth 500 rates and truth be told 50 09 pets should not go for any 08 because guess what many users have joined since and those pets are significantly harder to get your hands on. You see people are hoarding white advents (aka what people are calling the"white Feb dog). List petc are just a value of opinion from a group of people thus why their was such a controversy. Now people can trade off of facts and not "this is just how it is" and people can discuss and interact worth those people more to do a good discussion of why their pet is worth the trade they are asking.

My lovely few cents on the matter as a conclusion and I don't mean to sound rude but we have brains and the means to research why not use it
