Something's up with the pound

i assume the huge number change during pound openings is a mix of december 18th and the popularity of the discord bot that offers a timer, i usually notice the pound adopting window shortens around holidays / events. granted, the huge number changes are probably more notable this time around..
though i'd disagree on adding a smaller window of time to know when the pound opens, i feel like the pounds more of a reward for people who make sure to check / keep up with it, no matter the timeframe, yknow?? also i personally don't see the need to punish players who plan out timers hours beforehand, i think using timers / reminders for the pound would just be considered adapting to it? it also takes about a minute to set up a reminder / alarm, it's an easy solution imo. shortening the countdown doesn't seem like a benefit, but i'll agree that the huge lag that strikes during the pound is something to consider working on.
also shortening the countdown would just make people adapt again, like making a discord bot to detect when it's open, or give an announcement when it's close to opening.

When the pound says it's opening in 3 hours (for example) it actually says it will be opening within 3 hrs. If you set your timer for 3 hours you will most likely miss it and the page will have reset to the next opening time.

It will only give you the exact time within 2 hrs, then set your timer for one minute less and you won't miss it.

I have noticed the pound empties very fast, that just means there are a lot of people online clicking as fast as you (and probably trying to get the same pets). I have managed to click fast enough to get some rare ones (store and list pets) but many times I miss out because someone else clicked faster.

They are releasing fewer pets now than in the past
The pound used to have millions so the site owners were releasing frequent large batches of pets to get the numbers down to a certain point. Once a manageable amount was reached they started releasing fewer pets at a time.

The lost and found empties much much slower than the pound.

There are also more items in the L&F than in the Pound.

i feel like when people just say "people use bots to get rare pets" it is very misleading to a harmful extent as it frames users of these bots as cheaters when all it is is a timer and you aren't guaranteed to get anything good. all the bot does is go "hey, the pound opens in 5 minutes" and everything else is up to you. like mentioned before, i use it because i have adhd and will often forget the pound is opening, but even with it i will get bad pets or even miss openings entirely just because i was distracted.

the bot also additionally allows you to generate an image of the rare pets in the pound's adoptions group, but again, this is all stuff you could already do. you can set timers without the bot, and you can manually look through the pound's pets to see what rare pets there are. the discord bot just makes things a little easier, especially for people with bad attention spans.

one thing I have been dealing with for a while is sometimes the pound will be opening for me and once I refresh after one second a message displays saying "the pound will open in (insert here number here) hours". It confuses me cause why would it be opening if its just gonna have me wait a certain number of hours even though it said it was opening, kinda makes me mad cause I get so excited and then it resets the timer
I can't tell if its a real issue many players like me and 2 of my friends have been having but any answer to this weird thing or "glitch" as my friend calls it would be helpful

Since The Pound has been working for a good chunk of time without Bugs and There was'nt any Site Update recently i am assuming you're confused about The Messages?

The Messages Go Like this:

Pound/L&F emptys> No Message at all below The Donate Buttons > The Pound will Open soon > The Pound will Open within 4/3 hours > 2h countdown

(There is also The chance of your website Cache Not proberly loading and showing old Pages? Please correct me If this is not possible)



Regarding Pound openings in General:
In The past, we would be having batches of ~2500 pets per opening, so emptying would Take a good Bit longer.
Now we got more openings with less pets, this ensures that the timezones are more spread Out and you have a Higher Chance of seeing The Pound about to Open, but also closed faster.
And I honestly prefer this Version more. I could Go weeks without seeing an about to Open Pound because The openings would be while i am at school/Work/asleep. Now i get about 1 opening per two days ( a Lot more on Holidays tho)

Now for The catching itself:
1. you have get a "good" pet on your First ( or Second) page.
This is actually random so you can be lucky or Not. ( Also what you perceive as good)
2. You have to click It before Others that got it in their Page. Sometimes a pet doesnt Seen to appear on a Lot of Screens and you dont have competition but other times: The PC User with very good Internet Speed Generally winning and those with average Connections or phone losing.

The Second step is however pretty much unfixable in The Current system because you cant Tell people to Not use their Phone or PC.

I believe a complete revamp ( with Prior on Site voting) would be good, maybe a Pound that relies completely on Chance? Ex. you get little vouchers to randomly redeem pets out of a Set Pool ( The Pound Account)
1 rare+ voucher per Month and 15 uncommon and below vouchers, that you get at The start/middle/end of each month

Agreeing, the pound needs a complete rehaul. Instead of having oldest pets first, it should be random; I haven't seen the pound empty this fast through my years on CS?

But the pound bot on discord isn't the problem, I haven't seen the pound be like this. This started happening very recent, not since the bot was created.

another pound opening emptied in basically a minute or two ;~; if you needed a good argument that the discord timer isn't to blame, i've gotten like one decent pet in the past week despite using it, and each time i saw the number go from like 700 to 200 in an instant

I wish they would increase the amount of pets put out during the pound for people who show up like 1-5 mins late, or people with slow wifi

the pound definitely needs to be revamped. ive recently returned from a 5 year hiatus and the first thing i noticed was the ruthlessness of the pound! if you're even a minute late you miss out. perhaps its just the holidays bringing more users back but regardless this should never be an issue. i suppose we'll just have to wait and see if it calms down in the coming weeks as staff don't seem to have a solution in mind
