I tried my hand at a story. It's not my best, but oh well.


Frosted Sun "Frosty" and Shimmering Ice "Shimmer"


Frosty laced up her skates, tying the white strings into double knots to ensure they didn’t come undone while she was on the ice. She stood up and teetered over to the frozen lake’s edge. Walking in skates wasn’t easy.
As soon as she stepped onto the ice, her soul felt as free as a bird. She moved her feet rhythmically back and forth, building up speed. She dug the toe of one skate into the ice to toss herself into the air, spinning, and then landing perfectly. She couldn’t explain the feeling of being on the ice. It was exhilarating, breath-taking, amazing. There were no words to describe it.

She’s so beautiful…

She stayed on the ice until her legs started to shake with exhaustion. Frosty glided slowly over to the edge of the lake, dreading taking off her skates. She was bent over, intent on undoing the knots she had tied into the laces of her skates. She was so engrossed in the knots she didn’t notice the girl appear on the frozen lake and start to walk towards her.
“Hello…”
Frosty jumped. Her head whipped up to see a beautiful girl standing before her. Her gray-blue eyes were glittering with laughter.
“Did I startle you? I’m sorry.” The girl’s voice tinkled like ice-covered branches clinking in the wind.
“Uh, um, uh…. no, no you didn’t.” Frosty struggled to find the words to speak. Her heart skipped a beat. ‘Who was she? Did she live near? Could I be friends with her? Or maybe more than friends…’
“Good, I’m glad. My name’s Shimmer. Nice to meet you. I saw you skating. You’re a beautiful skater.”
‘Did she just call me beautiful? No, she called my skating beautiful, not me. Stop this nonsense.’
“Oh, uh, thanks. Do you live near here?”
Oh gosh, did I just ask that?
“You could say that. We should meet here again. I’d like to get to know you better. We could be friends. Bye Frosty!”
‘Friends… I guess I could do friends. Wait, did she say she’s leaving? No, I don’t want her to go…’ Frosty ducked her head to hide her blush.
“Bye… Shimmer.” She whispered her voice barely audible. She looked up to watch her friend leave, but when her eyes scanned the lake and the land around it, there was no sign of Shimmer. No footprints or nothing.
‘I hope I didn’t imagine her. She’s so beautiful… Oh dear…’

I hope she liked me… I really like her…

Two months later… The end of winter…

Tears ran down Frosty’s face as she hugged Shimmer tightly.
“Don’t go, please. Please Shimmer, don’t!” Shimmer had told Frosty that one night they had spent under the stars together that one day she would leave. Frosty’s yellow-golden eyes glittered with pain at that memory. That was one of the most precious memories of Shimmer. She couldn’t leave. When Shimmer had told her, Frosty didn’t believe it would happen. She thought it would be later. She thought they’d have more time.
Over the two months they had spent together, their relationship had grown. Every day Frosty made it down to the lake, never missing a day. Not a hailstorm or a fever could stop her. She wouldn’t miss a day with her. She couldn’t miss a day with her.
Everything she did with Shimmer Frosty remembered, from the day they met to their first kiss. Everything counted, and Frosty could forget nothing. She loved Shimmer. They had something, something so special she would never forget.
“I have to go Frosty. I don’t have a choice.”
“Everyone has a choice! Please! Stay with me!”
“I can’t.” Shimmer’s eyes were hazy with tears and pain. She had never told Frosty why she had to leave. She had never told Frosty her biggest secret, for fear Frosty would leave, would hate her for it. That she would be horrified that a spirit of a frozen lake loved her. That once the lake unfroze, she would leave. She didn’t want Frosty to think about it. She wanted Frosty to savor their time together.
“Frosty, I’m a lake spirit. I’m a spirit of a frozen lake. The lake is unfreezing, and I have to leave. I’ll be back, I promise.” That promise was a lie. Frosty could see it in Shimmer’s eyes. She would never see Shimmer again.
“I don’t care that you’re a spirit. I love you. I don’t want to live without you” Frosty said in a flat tone. “I won’t live without you.”
Shimmer grabbed Frosty’s shoulders. “Yes you will. Live for me. Promise.” Frosty didn’t answer. Shimmer took Frosty’s face in her hands, and gave her one last tender kiss. “I have to go.” Before she could look at Frosty’s face again, she ran into the lake, and disappeared.
“SHIMMER! NO! No! No. No…” Frosty’s screams trailed off. She knew there was only one thing to do. She would join Shimmer.
Frosty slowly walked into the lake. ‘I won’t live without her. I love her. If she can’t live, neither can I.’

No, Frosty, no. Live. Live for me.

The last thing Frosty saw was a hazy image of Shimmer, blurred in the water. “I’m coming Shimmer…”

Okay Frosty. I’m coming for you. Don’t worry, we will be together. Always.

I'm sure this pair has been posted before, but I've had them in my mind for awhile and I just got a story idea ^^

They say a caged bird never sings...

But which is the caged bird?

She lived a lonely existence. I could see her from my stoop; her unique pelt and coat blended with the frosty environment around her. I closed my eyes slowly. How could I approach her? She looked so sweet and honest, a truly great individual. But looks can be deceiving--what if she is an evil maiden? Preposterous. Any one who takes in ill birds is not evil.

I always thought I was an ill bird, not health wise, but mentally. I am immortal, set on Earth to live a lonely life. But maybe, just maybe she will see me, and cure me of my illness. She'll put a cast around my heart and eternally be mine.

I long for her, I long for her presence. I caught her eyes in mine, finally. Her gray eyes are like me; longing for someone else. I could tell that she would be accepting if I were to fly over.

I wish I did, oh how I wish I did. But my shyness got a hold of me, it's firm grasp strangled me until I had no choice but to sit. I wish to capture her eyes again in a meaningful stare. It would make my life. She's already starting to heal me; her eyes and loving looks of acceptance are engrossing me in the thought of her and me.

Soon, it will happen. I will be hers. She will mend my wings and melt my heart. Together, we will be perfect for one another.

I did it. I lifted my umbrella-like wings, and they carried me to her without hesitation. When I saw her lovely face, I let out a small squak, notifying her that I meant no harm. She flashed her pearly white teeth at me before saying her lovely name: Melodie. And her name was like a melody to my ears.

I think she knows that I can not speak.

But our relationship will be completely lovely in silence.
It will be completely lovely in any path it decides to take, because even if it takes the wrong path, I will still have had this time with her.
