It's a rather complex and shamefully not very well known theme, so I'll just explain right away ^^.
This is a geode frog. There have been over 90 cases reported of amphibians being found inside geodes while still alive. They would come to conciousness once in contact with the fresh air and unfortunately die in a matter of hours due to respiratory dificulties. It's an unexplained phenomenon that I'm really, really fascinated by and so I really wanted to make one of the guardians after this intriguing mystery.
However, making a horse with either a mummified or alive frog inside would be just creepy XD. So I tried to make something else from it... in fact, that outcome is what really gave me the idea for the guardianship backstory. Biomancer, the Guardian of Lifeforce, would carry a living frog inside him. It not only refers to the unexplained phenomenon, but also focuses on how those amphibians were actually alive by portraying a healthy, active frog in its own habitat inside the geode.
And with this portrait of life and activity, it also became the symbolic design of Biomancer ^^.
