My mother's cries of warning echoed in my ears as I fell further and further into the trapdoor, and just as I thought the pit would never end, I landed with a crash on the rocky ground far below the surface. I let out a small squeak and slowly climbed to my feet. A bat brushed against the top of my head and I stumbled, falling down some kind of stairs. Shivvering with cold and fear, I pulled myself up again. I heard a small shriek coming from the darkness and the sound of chains rattling as a glowing white figure passed in front of me, moving quickly. My breathing became as fast as that of a tiny field mouse as I stretched out my front legs and buried my face between them.
Vesper:
Who was this girl? Her pale golden fur shone brightly in the candlelight, she was still living. I died when I was just a puppy, and I never knew my mother. I met her when I died, she had been granted the honor of becoming a star in the night sky while I was doomed to roam Earth as an undead until I found love, she told me to stay away from the living, because it may ruin their afterlife to see the afterlife, it is the force that keeps us going to wonder about life after death. Still, I felt drawn to her delicate golden fur and it's patterns and the way she hid from me, almost as if she was more curious than afraid. I pulled my paws tight and gently pushed my head into the light
Noel:
I jumped back slightly as the glowing, eyeless face came into my view. "Who are you?!" I blurted out without any thought. He smiled slightly. "I'm Vesper. You can scream now." I pulled my face out from my paws "Noel. Feel free to gasp." His eyes-if I could even call them that-grew wider as he stepped slowly into the light. He glowed like the moon, and the chains around him rattled as he moved. "I-I hope I don't offend you at all...but what are you?" I asked shakily.
Vesper:
What am I?! She dared ask me? "If you must know..." I began "I'm a ghost." That did it to her-if she wasn't scared of me before, there was no doubt that she was now. "H-how do we get out of here?" she asked me. I had done it now, she hated me. I lifted my eyebrows "There is no way out!" She cocked her head to the side, testing if I was joking, but I held my face like stone. "Haven't you heard of all the young pups who disappear in the forest?!" I began again "It's all my doing. I'm a ghost, I stay here by stealing the life force of the living. There is no way out, because no one ever escapes alive."
Noel:
I jumped back slightly. He had to be lying!! I watched his eyes, following every tiny movement exactly, before jumping over him and making a run for it, tripping on the stairs in my haste. I tumbel down the steps, landing upside down looking up into his empty eyes, an amused grin filling his face "I told you, there is no escape." I smiled. "Lovely"
