Older player returning and getting back into the swing of things.

I had an encounter today which honestly miffed me a bit and I thought I'd come here to ask what's considered fair these days.

Someone sent me this trade and I replied that I didn't think it was fair (If I trade with unknown pets I assume that token pets will be rare and thus 3 tokens = 1 rare) because it's 4 rares on my side and 1 on theirs. I sent back a counter offer of this (2 rares on my side and 1 on there's to account for date difference) and they responded:

Usually 2x 2022 rares = 1 2021 Rare = 0.5 2020 Rare and so on...

Honestly the bun is probably worth more than 4 2022 rares.

But by that logic that bunny is worth 32 '22 rares!

2021 rare = 2 '22 rares
2020 rare = 2 '21 rares = 4 '22 rares
2019 rare = 2 '20 rares = 4 '21 rares = 8 '22 rares
2018 rare = 2 '19 rares = 4 '20 rares = 8 '21 rares = 16 '22 rares
2017 rare = 2 '18 rares = 4 '19 rares = 8 '20 rares = 16 '21 rares = 32 '22 rares!

That is ridiculous! But I see the 2:1 rule all over this thread and in many trades I cancelled due to feeling unfair. Is the rule supposed to work different with bigger age gaps?

Idk maybe this is more a rant than anything. Seems painful that in one event (like this internet event) you get maybe 20-40 rares if you play pretty frequently but then that only technically equals a single 2017 rare! How is anyone supposed to work themselves up in this game without dropping money on C$?

for gaps that are only like 2, maybe sometimes 3 years, apart that rarity maths usually used
for gaps further apart (like in your trade) the numbers are technically that big, but people don't generally trade that many. Once you get 3+ years apart it's really just up to what both sides "feel" is fair rather than any hard numbers. There is one method where people add +2 per year rather than doubling the math that's been used a little more frequently in the past year or two (would be 2017 rare = 2 '18 R = 4 '19 R = 6 '20 R = 8 '21 R = 10 '22 R) so the math is less painful to look at, but as already said, with large year gaps it's mostly just up to the players being okay with what's being traded

though by either of those methods, 4 2022 R = 2 2021 R = a 2020 rare, so it was unfair to them from the beginning. Even though they're rare pets, older pets hold value than newer ones
