I doubt there's a fixed theme... I think that was never the case and even though the colors fit to it, they will most likely be many different things.

True but most of them seem like they all had semi the same idea when it came to the color pallete . Like they all have something to do with spring/summer

Honestly not sure how you jumped to that conclusion. I think they're all really different.

Or maybe people are all interpreting very vague markings as being spring/summer/beach themed because that's what they associate with those colours?

The only staff pet that grew for me so far is

Your staff pets are only one day old, though you did probably miss the other day 1 pets in that case.

I'm very pleased, though, I was able to trade for the two dogs I've missed so far with today's extras. Thank goodness I can count on the staff pets not splitting, it makes things so much easier and less paranoia-inducing.
