I had three white porcelain dogs and of course the only one of the three I traded became the PPS :C

I get you. I only had two, but was so sure they weren't going to split that I gifted my spare to another user. The one I kept grew, the one I gave away became PPS

and I still have two to grow yet so may get more

I kind of dislike the fact that what seemed to be the least common outcome had to be a split as well. They drive me crazy trading for them but I have this urge to have a complete collection of everything ;-;

Even if people do hoard them a lot, they'll still almost certainly be uncommon. Hoarding doesn't affect rarity tags.

The total number of dogs does, and if their hoarding more than estimated (less in circulation than I've guessed) that might make them common. I think because they are pretty there are fewer people wanting to trade them. If that number is higher or lower than estimated it effects my guesstimates on total rarity of the PPS outcome.

You can't influence the number of pets by hoarding them.
CS calculates rarity based on how many of a pet exist on active accounts. To be considered inactive, an account would have to not have been logged into for a way longer time than a month, so as of now, every existing march pet on the site (excluding off-account adopts) will be counted into the rarity calculations.
It doesn't matter to the system whose specific account the pet is on. If you have ten dogs on one active account, or ten dogs on ten active accounts, it's irrelevant to the statistics ^^

Hoarding affects supply and could make a pet harder to trade for, but that's not what rarity is about. It's all about numbers, not availability.

Edit: Unless you meant to say that you are guessing it will be uncommon because you haven't seen many of them, but you suspect that people could have so many of them hidden out of sight in their hoards that they just seemed uncommon to you?
That would make more sense to me, though I have found, personally, that regardless of hoarders, the economy still reflects the rarity of a pet quite well.
