"I came to watch you burn."
He was not supposed to be here. The judge ordered that the witnesses were disallowed to be present on my execution. I suppose he made an exception for the soot-haired man. I wondered how he managed to piss me off in only five words.
Ah, I breathed. His eyes. It was his eyes that infuriated me.
Smug. Arrogant. Proud. Superior. And a tiny glimpse of color; a flash of relief.
My grin widened as he whimpered.

"Give the man five minutes." The judge threatened, thrashing around with his gavel. "Five minutes until we do this. Escort him back to his cell for his final prayer."
But I waved off the priest and I flat-out ignored the guards who poked fun at me through my iron bars. I sat on the edge of my bunk, hands in my lap, gaze on the far wall as though I could escape merely by taking apart the pastel bricks in my mind. I wondered how many people had sat here and counted bricks and felt Death's warm [ravenous] breath on the back of their throat.
But then there came the jostle of keys and I rose, mistaking the sound as my death patrol.
Instead, I met those familiar flustered eyes.

He waved his hands impatiently at the guards who slurred to a stand and washed away their concerns with a charismatic smile when they warned him against entering my cage. He soothed the men with his colorful words and encouraged them to step away for a few minutes. He said that he had something to share with me; and he wanted no one to overhead the confession.
They decided he probably wanted to beat me and left him at it, wandering down the hall, blinded by his handsome face and his crooked smile [why must you be so pretty?].
I glared at him when he unlocked the door.
I didn't like the sound of the hinges.

He captured my chin in his hand and dragged my face up.
I breathed in.
Breathed out.
"Too late now, Chaos." Too late now.

Prying my fingers open, he pressed something into my palm. I was almost surprised to feel the solid outline of a key [sometimes the acting got too much, sometimes it got too real]; and his smile was worried, tight.
"I hate this plan." He whispered, and I chuckled as he drew away, sensing the guards impending return. "Be safe." I could barely hear him when he left, and the door drew shut behind him. I listened to his dress shoes click down the hallway and jingled the single key that spelled salvation or doom.
Death wrung his fingers and cursed. I grinned.
"Sorry, bud."
Standing, I went to the door and murmured, "Maybe next time."

The gunfire blazed with the light of a supernova and the thunder was enough to make any man wish he was deaf. But the corner was a safe haven and I twirled the single pistol I held, content enough to let the other men do the fighting.
My mind was elsewhere anyway.
I glanced up when there was a pause and I heard the wet sound of a severely injured guard crawl along the ground. I looked over at him and frowned [you're never intimidating when your eyes are a Valentine card].
"Why are you doing this?" He whispered, and touched his empty holster. His fingers were slippery from blood. His own blood.
Fascinating.
"I have an appointment." I replied after a heartbeat and stood up. I straightened the white suit I wore with a dazzling smile. "And I'm already late."

It took him thirty minutes to get to me. He had to go around hundreds of guards, and even his charm couldn't get out of some sticky spots; he sported a bruise that dangerously darkened his forehead. But as he came to me, sprinting around a corner, I cared little for the worry he lent me and the wait and I embraced him tight.
He buried his face into my hair and said, "We've gotta go. We gotta go now."
Urgent, I reminded himself. For him.
I took his face in my hands and kissed him. Might be the last time, I reminded myself. Last time.
My sad eyes made him frown and I kissed that away too, I kissed him until he nearly forgot why he was here and I was out of my head with the suffocating spell of his presence.
"Now." I breathed with a tight grin. "Remember?"

The spotlights were clever, but we had men all over the place, bribed, threatened, blackmailed. They were our ceaseless distractions, and even as the guards clamored to find us, they had to deal with a thousand fires, prison fights, stabbings, murders, weapons gone missing. I wondered how many people would die tonight to ensure my freedom.
In the night, Chaos' eyes smoldered. I took his hand in mine while we stood on the climax of our escape route, a plunge to the ocean that roared below. I calculated in my head the statistics that were more then dreary.
Not good.
"Maybe next time." I repeated to instill courage, and I tightened my fingers on his own. He was cold, so cold, shaking from nerves and desperation and as we stood on this I wondered why he had done this all. I had to meet his eyes to remind myself.

His acting had some flaws. Even now in the dark I could read the emotions he didn't want me to see.
Worry. Frustration at this plummet. Fear. Panic. Adrenaline.
And there.
A flicker.
A flame.
I smiled as I tensed my legs.
"Jump."
The last thing I saw was the ocean rushing up to meet me and the wild love that turned his eyes to the color of sunsets.

No matter how hard I tried, she wouldn't even look at me, she was a freak of nature, like me, born with too many tails, and to top it off, I had a strange orangy-red glow around me. She would never love me, even though I loved her.
I'd seen her with another wolf, he was perfect, handsome, everything she could want...
Her eyes sparkled like the sea, her coat resembled a beautiful sunset, we would get along great, if only she would talk to me, look at me, notice me.

That sick, idiotic freak of a wolf, he keeps staring at my beloved Arizona, he just wants to take her away from me, I can tell she loves me way more than he would ever, we belong together forever, we should grow old and have puppies together. Our relationship is perfect, she loves me and I love her just as much back.

It was like a civil war in my head, one half of me wanted to go running to Inferno and tell him we belong together, and another half wanted to stay with the perfect, beautiful wolf, but he wasn't everything I wanted.

Ahahaha, now who said you couldn't write like that? Brilliant! Driven and urgent with an underlying softness about it, as is your usual style. Lovely! And the kiss was well incorporated- I can never seem to get that to flow right, personally.

If it had to be one or the other... I'd say maybe the first. :3 I like the way those colors work, vivid as they are.
